In New York, she acted as a hearing officer for the New York City Office of Rent Control. Later in New York, she practiced Immigration Law and Family law, and then worked as a lawyer for Legal Services in upstate New York and later in Colorado. She began her Colorado career as a lawyer in 1979 with Colorado Rural Legal Services.In 1985 she began her work as a lawyer for the Colorado Attorney General's office and represented the Colorado Health Department and several agencies; this work involved complex litigation for the Department. All of her prior experience helped to hone her litigation skills. In 1987 she began focusing solely on divorce and family law matters. She started this focus working with the Law Office of Stephen J. Harhai and later, Malman & Malman. She has been a speaker on family law issues and has written several articles on issues relating to children, property division and divorce issues.
