J. Brick Van Der Snick is the principal of the Van Der Snick Law Firm, Ltd., in St. Charles and Sycamore, Illinois.  His practice concentrates in the criminal defense of Traffic and Criminal cases with an emphasis on Traffic and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) cases, Family Law, Custody, and Paternity matters.. Prior to private practice, Mr. Van Der Snick was a Supreme Court Rule 711 Clerk and an Assistant State’s Attorney in Kane County, Illinois for almost five (5) years, wherein he prosecuted all matters ranging from ordinance violations to murder cases.. Mr. Van Der Snick is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), the Kane County Bar Association (KCBA), the DeKalb County Bar Association (DCBA), the Texas Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association (TCDLA), and the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (IACDL). Mr. Van Der Snick is the past chair of the ISBA, Traffic Laws and Courts Section Council and has been a current member for over 10 years.. Mr. Van Der Snick has authored many articles published in the ISBA Traffic Laws and Courts Section Newsletter and has been a guest lecturer for ISBA-CLE Programs, Kane County CLE programs, IACDL Programs, as well as appearing in traffic videos for the Illinois Bar Association and Kane County Bar.  Mr. Van Der Snick published an article entitled, “Summary Suspension Hearings: Shifting the Burden of Proof to the State” in the March 2000 Illinois Bar Journal.  Mr. Van Der Snick is the author of the 2011 Supplement to the 2009 IICLE – Defending DUI and Related Cases, Chapter 6 – Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and 2014 Edition.. In 2002, he received a Certificate of Training in administering “Standardized Field Sobriety Testing” using the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards.  In 2006, he received his Certificate for Refresher Training for NHTSA and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.  In September 2012, Mr. Van Der Snick became a certified standardized field sobriety test instructor.  In 2014, Mr. Van Der Snick attended and completed the NHTSA ARIDE Course.. In 2003, he was appointed as a member of the prestigious National College of DUI Defense, Inc. and has been in good standing since his inclusion in the program.. Mr. Van Der Snick has lectured and presented extensively with the Illinois Appellate Prosecutors Basic Trial Advocacy Program, Advanced DUI Program, the ISBA, the IACDL, the Northwestern Suburban Bar, as well as the University of Illinois in Springfield, Continuing Legal Education Program.
