Michael R. Schneider is a criminal defense attorney with over 30 years’ experience. Prior to becoming a partner with Andrew Good and Philip Cormier, Mr. Schneider was a partner and founding member of Salsberg & Schneider, a Boston law firm listed as one of the Best Law Firms in America, 2010-13.. Mr. Schneider represents clients in complex criminal and regulatory matters with a national security, civil liberties and human rights dimension. He has successfully defended individuals charged in homicide, serious felony and misdemeanor cases, and has won jury acquittals of armed robbery, attempted rape, firearms and other serious felonies.. Mr. Schneider has extensive experience in criminal appeals and post-conviction proceedings. He has overturned the convictions of clients in three homicide cases, including Commonwealth v. Earle, 458 Mass. 341 (2010); Commonwealth v. Conkey, 443 Mass. 60 (2004); and Commonwealth v. Grant, 49 Mass. App. Ct. 169 (2000), and in many other serious felony matters. Mr. Schneider also obtained a reversal of a US Munitions List conviction in United States v. Wu, 711 F.3d 1 (2013). He has successfully raised First Amendment challenges to the threats-and-intimidation provision of the Massachusetts Civil Rights Act as well as the state’s Child Enticement Law. He also challenged the constitutionality of the federal habeas corpus provisions of the Anti-Terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act. Mr. Schneider has worked on various high-profile cases, including the O.J. Simpson, David Merrick, Mike Tyson, and Pamela Smart cases, and has tried a case before a United Nations tribunal.. Mr. Schneider also devotes a substantial part of his practice to the representation of professors, physicians, and scientists accused of scientific research misconduct at medical schools, universities, and other research institutions, as well as before Office of Research Integrity (NIH) and the National Science Foundation. He also represents university students accused of plagiarism and academic misconduct at area law schools, medical schools, and universities.. Mr. Schneider began his career as a public defender at the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS), later worked as an associate to Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, with whom he continues to collaborate on cases, and was Of Counsel to The Spangenberg Group, a consulting firm providing technical assistance in the area of legal aid and indigent criminal defense delivery systems in various states (Kentucky, New York, Texas, and Washington) and foreign jurisdictions (Cambodia, Chile, & China).. Mr. Schneider is presently an Adjunct Professor at Boston University School of Law, where he teaches “Wrongful Convictions, Miscarriages of Justice, & the U.S. Criminal Justice System.” He is a frequent lecturer at legal education seminars and at area law schools. He has authored numerous articles on criminal justice topics. He has served as a Director on the National Board of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Board of the ACLU of Massachusetts..
