I am a long-time resident of the Town of Falmouth, having arrived in 1958 as I was entering high school. I was not an A student in high school, being more interested in playing football and running track. I graduated from Lawrence High of Falmouth in 1962, and made a brief attempt to study art. After dropping out of art school and bumming around for several years -including a solo trip hitch hiking from San Francisco to Boston - I entered Cape Cod Community College in 1967. I went on to earn a B.A. at U.Mass. Amherst, and then to Columbia University School of Law, earning my J.D. in 1975.. My first legal job was with Legal Servcies for Cape Cod & the Islands, representing indigent juveniles. After a year, I began working for Henry Owens in Boston, doing appeals on first degree murder cases and other major crimes. We successfully got the murder conviction reversed for Richard Allen in Comm. v. Soares (the Combat Zone Murder case), a case which ruled for the first time that prosecutors cannot use peremtpory challenges to systematically exclude black jurors. Allen was acquitted on retrial.. I moved back to Falmouth in 1978 and began working with Kistin & Babitsky, doing Social Security and ERISA disability cases. I gradually began handling personal injury cases with K&B, primarily third-party cases for the firm's workers compensation clients. I went out on my own about eight years ago and now handle a variety of civil cases including torts, contracts and civil rights. I practice in both state and federal courts.. I gradually began to get involved with local public service, starting with Town Meeting. I served on the Falmouth Con Com for six years, and i served on the Falmouth Planning Board for twenty-two years. I also became involved with youth sports, baseball and soccer, as my son Brian was growing up, and I became a licenced soccer coach and referee.. My outside interests now include fly fishing, and I am a dues paying member of Trout Unlimited. I also play guitar and sing at open mics all over the Cape and Southeastern Mass., from Wellfleet to New Bedford. I began playing in public only a few years ago, as part of a trio doing early Sunday services at the North Falmouth Congregational Church where my wife Adrienne and I are long time members.
