Lisa is a Partner at Smithey Law Group LLC, where she leads one of the firm's two practice groups, representing employees and small businesses in Maryland and D.C., as well as the firm's expansion into Nashville, Tennessee. Lisa represents clients in civil litigation, administrative proceedings, and settlement negotiations related to sex, race, and many other forms of discrimination, sexual harassment, equal pay, wage claims, and whistleblower retaliation claims, in addition to drafting and negotiating employment contracts. Lisa also heads SLG's employment law internship and created and leads the firm's pro bono hotline for LGBTQ+ workers. Lisa grew up in Tennessee, where she received bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology, during which she conducted research and published articles focusing on social inequality in the workforce, including topics such as sexual harassment in restaurants and published a study of masculinity and privilege with the late Jackie Eller, PhD, which has been cited in numerous sociological journals. Lisa attended law school at the University of Baltimore in 2013, graduating at the top of her class, while completing internships with the Honorable Glenn T. Harrell on the Supreme Court of Maryland, administrative judges at the EEOC, and the Attorney General of Maryland, and served as an editor for her school's flagship Law Review. Lisa completed judicial clerkships with Judge Stuart R. Berger and Judge Robert A. Zarnoch on the Appellate Court of Maryland, prior to going into private practice to represent employees in discrimination, harassment, wage, whistleblower, and other employment disputes. She has since won jury trials, favorable findings from the EEOC, disciplinary appeals for federal employees, in addition to negotiating numerous high-dollar settlements on behalf of employee clients.
