Ms. Coons earned her undergraduate degrees from the University of Oregon in 1998 and 1999 in biology, chemisty, French, Spanish, German, and Psychology.  In 2002, she received her law degree from the University of Oregon.  She spent a year working as a cell biology research assistant, and then left that employment to prepare for the Oregon bar examination.  She spent the first four years of her career practicing with her father, Allan H. Coons, a well-regarded Oregon workers' compensation attorney, and also working for Martin J. McKeown.  Upon Mr. Coons' retirement in 2008, Ms. Coons continued their practice on her own, continuing to represent workers' compensation and social security disability claimants throughout western Oregon.. In her off-work hours, Ms. Coons enjoys spending time with her two daughters and husband, reading, sewing, watching movies, taking long walks (she completed the Portland Marathon in 2010, and has participated in and completed numerous half marathons since 2007), rollerblading, dancing, looking for things to photograph, and listening to music.

I grew up in Eugene and attended South Eugene High School. After college at Vanderbilt University I returned home to go to Law School at the U of O. My practice focuses on Workers' Compensation and Social Security Disability law. My wife and I have three kids who keep us on our toes all the time. I enjoy skiing in the winter and running year round. I am involved in Rotary and Lane County's Teen Court.

I began my legal career in 1975.  It has always been my intention to deliver justice in whatever way I could to my clients.  When I was a referee/administrative law judge, I held thousands of hearings in the Willamette Valley and Southwestern Oregon.  The hearings were administrative, and more often than not the parties were not represented.  It was up to me to help each party develop its best case and then rule on the case with a final written order.. When I was with the Attorney General's Office defending claims for SAIF, I had an oportunity to learn how the workers compensation system worked.  It was a revelation which led me to leave and represent injured workers, for that is where my heart is.  I am still doing it.. I take great pleasure in helping my clients through very difficult situations.  I know it is especially important to help them through the maze of programs in addition to the workers compensation system, to ensure they get through with as few losses and indignities as possible.  My staff and I feel it is our duty to do so.. For six years I served on the Local Professional Reponsibility Committee.  Its purpose was to contact lawyers who had been the subject of complaints and interview and recommend for or against prosecution by the Oregon State Bar. I believe the Bar is at its best when it promply and impartially responds to complaints, whether from other lawyers, citizens or clients.
