I believe the law is a "helping profession" and my job is to protect my clients and help solve their problems. One of my early influences was the great American novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. I was inspired by the strength of character of Atticus Fitch. To this day, I believe the law is a noble calling and requires a practitioner to be an example of good character to his/her community. Certainly being a parent, grandparent, and spouse have been the crucible experiences of my life. I also take great stock in attending two wonderful universities, The University of Michigan and Wayne State University.. Traveling and reading are my favorite hobbies which, together with a strong liberal arts and legal education, have contributed to a broad world view of people and their experiences.. I am an active Rotarian and charter member of Ann Arbor Rotary West.  I'm also pleased to serve on a district committee for the Rotary Foundation as scholarship chair.. Over the years I have represented a wide variety of clients and appreciate the opportunity to assist with solving each client’s legal concerns.

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (1998) and the University of Michigan (1991). Prior to entering private practice, I worked as a Referee for the Washtenaw County Friend of the Court for fourteen years (2002-2016). I am past co-chair of the Washtenaw County Bar Association Family Law Section (2019-2021). My current practice is focused on parenting facilitation and estate planning.

For many years, I have assisted clients with business matters, real estate transactions and estate planning issues.  I have successfully litigated in all levels of the Michigan cours system and am admitted to practice before the Eastern and Western Federal District Courts in Michigan as well as the 6th Ciruit Court of Appeal.

Excellent, knowledgeable, compassionate attorneys are not born--they are made, and their achievement is recognized by their peers.  I received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Law Review of Wayne State's Law School and the Michiganian of the Year Award from the Detroit News.  I have taught Family Law in the evening at Wayne State's Law School for 13 years now as an adjunct professor and have practiced law for 32 years in the areas of real estate, business law, family law, construction law, litigation, and appeals.  I prevailed in the now famous Baby Jessica case where the U of M Law School's Child Advocacy Clinic was my opponent and have handled almost 30 appeals (including an important case under the ADA in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, where I prevailed).  I obtained a jury verdict of over $1M in a First Amendment case and a significant jury verdict in a securities fraud case (both in federal court).   I have authored approximately 15 scholarly articles that were published by  the Wayne Law Review in the areas of property tax, real estate, trusts and estates, and family law.  Many more of my articles were published by the Washtenaw County Bar Association (including a series on foreclosure law).  I was a member of the Saline School Board for 12 years and served on the Saline Tax Board of Review as well as the Representative Assembly of the Bar Association. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I graduated from the University of Michigan and then served in the U.S. Army. While serving in the Army,  I also graduated from the Defense Language Institute and worked at the Army's Freedom of Information Center in Washington D.C. Later I  graduated from Detroit College of Law, now known as Michigan State University College of Law, and began working at a respected law firm which specialized in civil litigation and trial work. A short time later, I was made partner and continued to handle a variety of court cases at both the trial and appellate level, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. My areas of practice included commercial and business litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, employment law, labor negotiations and real estate. I also participated as a hearing officer for alternative dispute resolution forums and mediation hearings.. Since starting my own law firm in 2002, I have continued to provide top quality litigation and trial work for clients, along with real estate, probate and estate planning services.
