I was born in Houston, and came to Austin in 1976 to attend law school at the University of Texas, where I represented the law school on its three-person Moot Court Team in state have been practicing law in Austin ever since. My practice is limited to personal injury cases, and is based on referrals from other lawyers, doctors, and happy former clients. I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. I grew up cheering for the University of Kansas Jayhawks, so naturally, I earned my Bachelor’s of Social Work, Master’s of Social Work, and Juris Doctor from KU.. While pursuing my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, I volunteered at the local domestic violence center and answered the crisis hotline. When I graduated with my Master’s degree, I started working for the domestic violence center full time. I helped victims safety plan around violence, leave abusive relationships safely, connected them with attorneys to represent them in legal proceedings, and accompanied them to Court as a source of support. Watching the injustices that survivors of domestic violence faced in the legal system is what led me to pursue becoming an attorney.. While attending the University of Kansas School of Law, I focused on litigation and interned for the local district attorney's office. After law school, the mountains called my name so I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where I worked in child support enforcement for three years. As a child support enforcement lawyer, I established paternity and support orders, modified support orders, prosecuted contempt actions for non-payment of child support, and facilitated a problem-solving court. I was actively involved in the Ben S. Wendelken American Inn of Court and the El Paso County Young Lawyers Association. On the weekends, I could be found in the mountains with my husband, either hiking with my golden retriever or snowboarding.. My husband is a native Texan so we were very excited when his military service brought us to central Texas. Practicing family law in Texas has been the most enjoyable part of my legal career and assiting clients in the most important transition of their lives has been the most rewarding part of my legal practice.

I was a freshman at Texas Tech University when I first saw injustice with my own eyes. I worked at the Lubbock County Detention Center and spent hours with detainees, building friendships, learning about their lives, their struggles, and how they ended up in the criminal system. From that point forward, I knew I wanted to spend my career fighting for people in the criminal legal system.. I’m a first-generation American and grew up in an immigrant household. My mom was raised in Colombia and my dad is from Greece. They had to start over after leaving their home countries, so they understand the value of education, helping others, and embracing diversity.. My parents encouraged me to prioritize education and instilled the importance of helping others in me. I am forever indebted to their sacrifices. That’s why after graduating with a degree in social work, I chose to work with incarcerated individuals, people in recovery, and foster children.. Every person I met had some involvement with the law and I knew I wanted to be on their side, helping them navigate the system. I continued my education at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. During my time in Norman, I spent my summers in Oklahoma, Houston, and Austin interning for brilliant and passionate criminal defense attorneys. I assisted on cases ranging from assault and family violence to capital murder.. My job at Cofer & Connelly is to relentlessly advocate for my clients. I have a diverse practice, but lead our efforts on expunctions, administrative license revocations, and license eligibility. I also participate in new client meetings and take lead on translating for our Spanish speaking clients.. Aside from work, a lot of things make me happy! I love to travel. My favorite places are Greece and Colombia, where I get to spend time with my family and eat a lot of good food. I also love to read. My favorite book is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, and Mark Pryor is my favorite author. Most importantly, I love doing outdoor things with my dog, Oscar! He’s the greatest Aussie ever.

I focus my litigation and appellate practice on complex business and employment disputes in state and federal courts. I represent businesses and individuals in disputes involving breach of contract, fraud, non-compete agreements, theft and misappropriation of trade secrets, and deceptive trade practices. I represent employers, employees, and executives in all types of employment disputes, including claims for retaliation, harassment, wage and hour issues, and breach of contract.

I acted as trial counsel to over 300 plaintiffs in mass action employment litigation filed in federal court, and obtained a $4.03 million jury verdict on behalf of two plaintiffs in a ten plaintiff bellwether jury trial—second largest employment litigation verdict in Texas in 2012; ranked among top 5 employment litigation verdicts in Texas in 2010-2013.

I hail from Lubbock, Texas, where I became a Red Raider at Texas Tech for both my undergraduate and law degrees.  After becoming involved with the West Texas Innocence Project in Lubbock, I decided that I wanted to practice criminal defense and provide a voice for the citizen accused.. I moved to the Dallas area to become a public defender for Kaufman County after law school and handled nearly every type of offense there as First Assistant Public Defender.  In 2010 I moved to Austin to come to work at the Law Office of Jamie Balagia, where I received specialized training in the defense of DWIs.. I am proud to have recently opened my own law practice where I will continue to serve Texans accused of all criminal offenses and the problems that stem from these kind of issues.  I have handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases in my four years of practicing law and love nothing more than helping defend the rights of others.. Personally, I am all about friends and family, love the arts, reading, and traveling.

I grew up in a small East Texas town, near the Big Thicket.  People were poor, and the economy was always tough.  Services such as mental health providers, counseling, and educational classes were few and far between.  I saw then, as a young girl, that people were never going to change their ways of living if they never knew HOW to change, or WHY they should.  My mother worked for 40 years in special education, and raised my sister and I with a healthy respect for people with disabilities, and a tremendous appreciation for the gifts we were given.  All of these circumstances, as well as my desire to help others who are lost in the maze of the criminal justice system, culminated in my ambition to be a criminal defense lawyer at the age of 11.. I followed my dream, through its many twists and turns, and stuck with it - even when the obstacles seemed insurmountable.  I know that I can inspire my clients to do the same, and the emotional reward for both of us is something that cannot be quantified.. I am also an avid live-music supporter, and country/swing dancer.  This often lends to healthy discussions with my musician friends, about how justice is administered in our society.  Fortunately, I can say that not many of them get into trouble, so it's mainly a hobby for me.
