I was a Chapter 7 Court Trustee for the Western District of Washington for 12 years, and have represented both creditors and debtors in all phases of bankruptcy proceedings. I am a frequent speaker on bankruptcy for the American Bar Association, and I have Chaired and spoke at CLE’s and seminars at the ABA Meetings for 18 years.. I currently serve as Chair of the Business Law and Bankruptcy Committee of the GP|Solo Division of the American Bar Association. I have been the Chair or Co-Chair of the Bankruptcy Committee since 2001, for 15 years. I started my legal career as a volunteer for a public defender agency, and I fell in love with the job. I really liked helping people, especially when they were scared and in the unfamiliar setting of a courtroom and didnt know what to do, or what was going to happen. I then began working full-time for a public defender agency in Seattle and I enjoyed it even more. I handled over 2000 cases in my time with the public defender, and then I moved on to private practice. I now do about 80% of my work for the Office of Public Defense and the other 20% is private. I have been to trial on everything from Trespass to Murder, and a few things in between. I am happy to help and answer any questions that a potential client may have. I don't charge for answering questions, just for representing people, and I will always try to make payments work for a client. I think that it is very important for people to look around when they are trying to find an attorney. Just because an attorney charges a large amount for their representation doesn't make them good, and just because Public Defenders are free doesn't make them bad - we all went to law school, but every lawyer is different. A client should always trust their lawyer - they are their advocate, their voice in the courtroom and trust and communication should always be open.
I have decades of experience winning disability, long term care, life insurance, and wildfire/catastrophic loss property insurance cases. I look forward to doing the same for you.. Monahan Tucker Law has offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland, OR. The journey to opening Monahan Tucker Law was decades-long. I worked as a waitress, office manager, book store clerk, messenger, and nanny to put myself through college and law school at the University of Chicago. For more than a decade after, I worked at some of the top law firms in the country, litigating bet-the-company cases, including high value life, health, property and disability insurance claims. Eventually, I realized that I like insurance cases, and I like helping people. Now I use my knowledge of the inner workings of insurance companies to help insureds navigate these complex systems. While insurance claims are business decisions to the insurance companies, denials can change the life of the person who doesn't get the benefits they are owed.. Your legal issues will be unique, and you deserve an attorney who will recognize that and give every case the attention and analysis it deserves. I have sued most of the large insurers in the country, including Unum, MetLife, Northwest Mutual, Life Insurance Company of America, Hartford, Reliance Standard, Prudential, Farmers, State Farm, CSAA, FAIR Plan, and many others, under both ERISA and state bad faith law. I have been named "AV Preeminent" by Martindale Hubbell, which rates attorneys through peer review by querying judges and lawyers nationwide to identify attorneys "ranked at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal expertise, communication skills, and ethical standards by their peers." But perhaps most importantly, I realize that the litigation is about YOU, and righting a wrong against you.. I am admitted to the bar in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona, and can help you with your insurance issues throughout the west.
