As campus sexual assault has received enormous media attention and become an enforcement priority for federal officials, colleges and universities have brought increasing numbers of disciplinary charges against students for alleged sexual assaults, including in cases where the facts do not justify such action. Norman has handled numerous cases for students facing sexual assault charges, both during internal college and university investigations and disciplinary proceedings and in the criminal justice system. Norman crafts an individual strategy for each case that considers the factual allegations, the relationship between the students involved, and the disciplinary policies and procedures of the college or university. His strategic approach to these cases has been extremely successful and he has frequently been able to defeat or mitigate the charges.. Norman has worked on many cases where the student has been cleared of wrongdoing or received reduced sanctions.  For example, in one sexual assault case, Norman assisted an undergraduate to prepare for a hearing – including preparing a written statement and teaching the student how to cross-examine witnesses – after which the student was found not responsible for assault.  In a student theft case, Norman assisted the student in preparing the case and argued the case to the university’s general counsel, demonstrating that the school did not have proof to support its case.  The school came to the same conclusion, finding the student not responsible for theft.  In a case where a student was charged with academic dishonesty, Norman worked with the student to craft a memorandum accepting responsibility for the action, but by highlighting mitigating issues they were able to keep the sanction to a minimum.. Norman has an equally broad range of experience litigating civil cases. He has handled many personal injury cases, including a case involving an airplane crash, construction cases, and automobile torts. In a case involving a scaffolding accident on a construction site, Norman obtained an $8 million settlement in the midst of trial on behalf of a bricklayer who was seriously injured in a construction accident. In a case of a pedestrian who was injured as a result of being hit by a hit-and-run driver, he obtained an $850,000 settlement.. My practice focuses on three primary areas of litigation: (1) White Collar Criminal Defense - Defending indiviudal and corporate clients in government investigations/prosecutions alleging white collar criminal violations including all manner of fraud (mail fraud, wire fraud, securities fraud, healthcare fraud, insurance fraud, etc.) and other state and federal statutory crimes; (2) Healthcare Litigation - Representing hospitals, medical practices, home health companies, clinics, medical device companies, and other healthcare providers (including individual doctors, nurses, physician assistants, etc.) in civil disputes and criminal investigations including those alleging violations of the False Claims Act, the Stark Law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute; and, (3) Civil Commercial/Business Litigation - Representing companies (including small and large businesses, as well as startups) and individuals in all manner of business/commercial disputes including those with other businesses, former or current employees, and vendors;

My criminal practice includes trial and appellate matters in both state and federal courts where I have represented clients on charges ranging from drug possession and conspiracy, animal abuse, money laundering, obstruction of justice, fraud, tax evasion, and other white collar crimes, murder, and foreign extradition.  I have also counseled and assisted clients during federal investigations.. In my civil practice, I represent employees in cases in state and federal courts and before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which include claims of: employment discrimination (i.e., race, gender, disability, pregnancy, caregiver status, age), sexual harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, wrongful discharge, and violations of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), wage and hour laws, and whistleblower protection laws.  I also advise and represent clients in severance negotiations and other workplace conflicts to resolve disputes without resorting to litigation.  I have worked on behalf of executives and professionals in a variety of industries, including finance, law, higher education, government, and healthcare.. In addition to employment law, my civil practice includes civil rights cases and representing students in university/academic disciplinary and Title IX proceedings.

I have advocated on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts throughout Massachusetts.Along with my litigation practice, I draft commercial contracts and provide counseling to individuals and corporations.. Prior to joining Gordon & Rees, I represented neurosurgeons, cardiologists, and oncologists in Boston. I also counseled physicians, nurses, and hospitals facing government investigations and disciplinary action.. In 2017, I obtained favorable verdicts in two jury trials involving several millions dollars in alleged damages. 2018, I obtained summary judgment for my client in the United States District Court. In 2019, I successfully opposed two motions for summary judgment in the United States District Court.. I obtained my undergraduate degree from Providence College. I then attended Suffolk University Law School, where I graduated seventh out of 353 students while serving as a Note Editor for the Suffolk University Law Review and an advocate for the National Trial Team..
