Merry practices employment law from offices in Boston, with emphasis on disability, sex, race,  age, and other forms of workplace discrimination; as well as wrongful termination, employment contracts, separation and non-compete agreements  and other employment-related legal issues.  He has litigated a number of discrimination cases on behalf of mothers, persons with disabilities, older workers and workers of color, some of which wound up in trial and on appeal before United States and Massachusetts courts.  He has represented teachers at all levels, sales personnel in a range of industries and financial services workers.  From 1998 to 2000  he served as general counsel and chief of enforcement for the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination; and spent ten years as a Massachusetts assistant attorney general pursuing consumer protection and public charities matters, including automobile repair fraud and adoption fraud cases among others.  Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office he served as a law clerk to the Massachusetts Superior Court    Since 2000 Mr. Merry has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Suffolk University Law School.  He is a current member of the Executive Board of the National Employment Lawyers Association, a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Law, and a past president of the Massachusetts Employment Lawyers Association, for which he has also served as co-chair of the Program Committee and on the Legislative Committee.  He also served one term as chair of the Individual Rights and Responsibilities Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association; and as president of the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, where he still serves as a member.  Prior to attending law school, he  began his career in journalism with the Waltham News-Tribune and the Boston Herald; and covered the Massachusetts State House as chief of its bureau for the Lowell Sun.  He is a veteran of four years’ service with the United States Army Security Agency, where he served as a German linguist and intelligence analyst in then-West Berlin.  He also serves as a member of the Wellesley Representative Town Meeting and belongs to the Wellesley Club, the New Bedford Yacht Club and the Wellesley Choral Society.  He is a graduate of St. Edmund’s Academy, an Episcopal elementary school in Pittsburgh;  Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana; Harvard College, and Suffolk University Law School in Boston (with honors)  where he served on the Suffolk University Law Review.
