When I headed off to college in 1962, I had every intention of completing my four years and then becoming a teacher. But it seems life had a very different plan for me.. My vision for the future started to change during my junior year at Arizona State. It was then that I married my high school sweetheart. To build up our savings, I began working full-time and attending school part-time, which put me behind schedule from my original plan. I was alright with the change, though, because working ensured that my lovely new bride could still graduate on time.. After my wife graduated, I went back to school full-time. But just as everything seemed to be getting back on track, another wrench was thrown into the works — I was drafted into the Vietnam War. I had never envisioned myself joining the armed forces, but I chose to embrace the idea by applying to Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Air Force. Unfortunately, though, my military examiner deemed that I had “bad feet,” which led to my exclusion from the war.. It was only after my military career was denied that I realized I hadn’t made any backup plans for the future. Fortunately, an opportunity presented itself in the form of Arizona State’s new law school. It was scheduled to open just as I was debating what to do next. With my father’s encouragement, I decided to apply. The rest, as they say, is history.

Tempe Attorney Scott Campbell. In 2009, I started to practice law, but that was not until after a 25-year career in law enforcement. For those 25 years, I worked for the City of Plantation, Florida, Police Department. In addition, for 9 of those years, I was in charge of the “Major Crimes Unit.” The major crimes unit investigated all sorts of violent crimes including murder and rape. During my career in law enforcement, I was able to experience all levels of police work; from being a patrol officer all the way up to a supervisor of detectives.. I believe that my career in law enforcement has been able to help me successfully do my job as a criminal defense attorney. I will often have people ask me, how I can defend accused criminals; after I was the one putting them behind bars for so many years? Because everyone has a right to Due Process and everyone is innocent until proven guilty.. As Americans, we have certain rights and there are people that may try and take those away. They can come in the form of bad laws or bad police officers. If we start cutting corners on how we arrest and prosecute the criminally accused; we would be ignoring the United States Constitution. Without the Constitution, we lose an essential aspect of being an American. We will always need watchdogs to keep an eye on those in power. Whether it’s protecting citizens against a police officer who believes in bending the rules; or protecting citizens from the government imposing unjust laws, it’s a job I am proud to say that I do.

I work with a number of individuals and businesses across different industries from athletics, fitness, e-commerce merchants, creatives like artists, photographers and website developers, transportation companies and others, in developing brand development and protection strategies. I was Assistant Attorney General for 16 years in the Child and Family Protection Division of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. I had an amazing career in government, but the time had come for me to make the move from public to private family law practice. In my years with the AGO, I interacted professionally with many law firms here in the Valley and I wanted to work with the best. Having seen firsthand the caliber of attorneys working with the Stewart Law Group, their professionalism, high ethical standards, and the quality work they were doing for their clients, that was the firm I wanted to work for. And in 2016, I joined the family law team as Associate Attorney.. When I’m not at the office, I volunteer in the community for “Neighbors Who Care,” an organization that arranges for dinner delivery to homebound elderly Arizonans. I’m looking forward to taking on more challenges, doing important work for those who need legal help and advice, and being more active in my local community. When the agenda is simply to relax, I love travelling to destinations known for their sandy beaches or mountain vistas. As an attorney, you carry a lot of your client’s stress. So I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle, have lots of fun, and stay fit doing hot yoga, playing tennis, hiking, and trail running whenever and wherever I can.
I enjoy advocating for children and those who don't yet have their own voice. I often take on Pro Bono cases from the Volunteer Lawyers Project. They have been some of my most interesting and gratifying cases. When I'm not practicing law, I enjoy running, reading, kayaking and watching movies with my family. My oldest daughter and I have taken some Krav Maga classes together and we now have some wicked ninja fighting skills.

Attorney Jason J. Navarro focuses on all Criminal Defense matters at Navarro Law, PLC. A third-generation Mexican-American, Mr. Navarro's grandfather immigrated to the U.S. from Chihuahua, Mexico in the 1930s. Mr. Navarro's father, Roberto, was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. In the early 70s, Roberto was stationed in Colorado with the U.S. Army where Jason was born but the family eventually moved to Dallas, Texas, where he was raised.. Growing up in Dallas in the early 80s was extraordinarily difficult as a poor brown-skinned boy. Blatant racism and class discrimination was a daily reality. Sadly, Mr. Navarro suffered from the same racial & socio-economic prejudices in his youth that many minority and blue-collar families are still forced to endure today. In his 20s, Mr. Navarro served in the U.S. Air National Guard (Air Force) and worked in sales and banking for several years. As time passed, however, Mr. Navarro began to feel the inescapable call to serve fueled by the countless heartbreaking experiences he had faced over the years. Eventually, he reached a point in his life when he could no longer ignore the inequalities he had witnessed first-hand for so long.. His mission now clear, Mr. Navarro moved to Arizona in 2002 to pursue his dream of becoming attorney. His plan was not without its challenges. He and his wife were raising two young children (twins) while working and going to school full-time. Thankfully, the hard work paid off in 2012 when he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Legal Studies from Western International University. Mr. Navarro subsequently graduated from Arizona Summit Law School (formerly Phoenix School of Law) in 2016.. Mr. Navarro knows what its like to be treated differently. He also knows what it feels like to be victimized by an imperfect system regardless of your status. If you are searching for an attorney who will relentlessly fight for you and truly cares, call today. HABLAMOS ESPAÑOL!

About three months after I started law school, my wife called me out. I was already beginning to act like one of “those” lawyers. Honestly, I was embarrassed and wanted to drop out. But instead, I decided to make a course correction.. That was when I discovered what I truly enjoyed about the law. It was more than just being able to argue myself out of any debate; it was more than just being able to quote statutes or cite caselaw. And it was certainly more than just obtaining a degree. What I enjoyed most about the law was the ability to walk along-side friends and family that were facing some of the most stressful events in their entire life. Not only are the events emotionally draining (a death in the family, being sued, a divorce, etc.), but adding to that is the frustration of dealing with the legalities caused by that event.. It is my opinion that the law has, in some ways, been hidden from the general populace. Even with self-help books and self-help counters at the courthouse, I have found that most people, at best frustrate themselves trying to figure it out or, at worst, dig themselves into a deeper mess. When you think about just the simple question “Where can I find what the law says about…” there is no single book or location you can read to get your answer. For example, with trusts, you need to read the Arizona Probate Code, the Internal Revenue Code, the Treasury Regulations and many layers of Tax Court and Arizona Court Case Opinions. Those are not found in one book. Then if you consider that tax law is set at both the federal and the state level, your search could double.. Law school does not teach you how to be a lawyer. It teaches you how to research the law. That is a skill learned through hours and hours of practice. I am still learning it today. But that skill, paired with my commitment to listening to a clients’ problems, will get us all to a satisfactory result.. So that is why I am not an “Attorney and Counselor at Law”. There’s more to helping clients than just counseling – we, as lawyers, should solve problems. We are the last resort for a friend or family member who has done everything to solve the problem without us. Once a client walks into my office, they are meeting the only “Attorney & Problem Solver at Law”. And if it is a problem that I can’t solve, I will find someone who can.
