I understand that a person accused of a crime is more than just a name and a criminal charge.  A person accused of a crime has a family, a history, and a story that needs to be understood.  That person deserves respect and zealous advocacy, regardless of their charges. I am honored to represent each and every client that wants me to fight on their behalf.

Firm: The Canipe Law Firm, PLLC

I started my law firm to put my prior experience to work for individuals, as well as small to mid-sized companies in the Charlotte and Cabarrus County area. I knew that my clients would benefit from a more flexible and personal style of legal representation, as well as the option for flat fee legal services rather than always having to pay by the hour.. Before founding The Canipe Law Firm, PLLC, I was a partner at a large multi-state law firm where I helped lead their Business & Contract Law team.  I also handled cases in NC and SC and provided estate planning services.  I had also worked for a the legal department of a large bank and for a large business litigation law firm.. I wanted a different kind of firm with a relationship where my clients and I could know each other better and I could offer them legal advice more customized to their situations.  I wanted my law practice to be drive by the needs of my clients and how I can help them.. I grew up in Catawba County, North Carolina and live in Charlotte with my wife and their two children.  Outside of work, I focus on his family and is an active member at Hickory Grove Baptist Church.  For several years, I worked with my wife teaching children’s Sunday School and the church’s annual Vacation Bible School. I also help  teach our adult Sunday School class and serve the members of the church as a deacon. I enjoy studying the Bible and discussing how to apply the Bible to everyday life, as I try to live out my faith.. I retain an avid interest in American history from my college days.  You can usually be sure that I am reading a few history books and working on a history research project.  I also greatly enjoy running, participating in local mud runs and playing pickup basketball with friends as part of my regular fitness routine.

I represent clients in the states of Florida and North Carolina in various types of legal matters, including but not limited to business law and real estate law. My career has followed a dual trajectory in litigation and corporate practice. I’ve acted as general counsel to several small businesses with regard to business development and contract work while also representing individuals and entities in complex business litigation matters relating to contract disputes, lender and financial liability matters, and real estate transactions. at both the state and federal level. My previous experience as a judicial clerk gave me insight into various litigation strategies and tactics viewed favorably by a judge.. I enjoy assisting individuals and their businesses navigate through legal issues that can, at times, be complex and confusing.. One of my proudest career moments that made a deep impact on me as an attorney was clerking for a circuit court judge in which I assisted the judge in the re-sentencing of a juvenile defendant based upon an error in his original sentence. Ultimately, the re-sentencing resulted in the defendant being released from prison in time to spend the Christmas holiday with his family.. My goal is to provide effective legal communication and solutions to my clients.

I love competition and thrive on being a trial lawyer.  I'm known as the 'DWI Guy' and 100% own it.  It's what I do.  I'm in the Legal Elite Hall of Fame as my colleagues voted me as North Carolina's Top Criminal Law Attorney in 2016.  I appreciate all the awards and recognition, from serving on Law Review to Business NC's Top 30 Under 30, to Super Lawyers, to the National Trial Lawyer's Top 40 Under 40, but it's helping people that makes me truly happy.. What will become clear after speaking with me?. [1] I'm direct and strategically-aggressive.. [2] My niche is getting people (Judges, Lawyers, DA's Office, etc.) to say "Yes" when they don't want to.. [3] Our custom internal-process and checks & balance systems will be relieving.. Being a certified NBA Player Agent (NBPA), the time I don’t spend battling it out in court, I spend either recruiting NBA prospects or reliving my glory days on the basketball court.  I’ve been the Commissioner of the Mecklenburg County Lawyer Basketball League for years.  Check out the photo-section for our recent Championship portrait.  You’ll have the opportunity to hold our 50lb. gavel as it’s proudly displayed as soon as you walk in our building.. I’m a West Virginia native who fights to the end.  I started my professional career in the Corporate & Investment Banking world.  Although very interesting, I didn’t know my personal end-game until I formed RTS Law Group.  Our employees are sharp, passionate, and feel like they are members of my family (some actually are).  This has all been a dream-come-true.  I’m looking forward to fighting on your behalf.

I represent adults charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses in District and Superior Court primarily in Mecklenburg County. I occasionally take cases in surrounding counties, such as Cabarrus and Union, and I am admitted to practice in the federal court of the Western District of North Carolina. Although I represent people charged with a variety of crimes, I have a particular interest in domestic violence defense and cases with Fourth Amendment issues - seeking to keep out evidence that the government obtained in violation of the Constitution. I have been practicing federal and state criminal defense in Charlotte for over 20 years. Since 2010, I have been a State Bar Board Certified Specialist in State and Federal Criminal Law. Since 2012, I have been selected each year as a North Carolina Super Lawyer and have received the highest peer rating (AV preeminent) from Martindale-Hubbell. I have handled every type of criminal case and have always striven to obtain the best possible results for my clients. Unlike many criminal defense lawyers, I do not run a high volume practice where the client is expected to quickly plead guilty and move on. Instead, I studiously look for weaknesses in the prosecution's case with an eye towards winning the case in front of a jury. I am not afraid to try a case, having tried over 130 jury trials during my legal career. On the other hand, if the case appears to be one which will likely result in a guilty verdict, I use the weaknesses in the prosecution's case and the positive aspects of my client's background to try to negotiate a better plea bargain than would otherwise be offered.

I have been empowering businesses and individuals for over 10 years. Most of my clients mirror who I am as a person: self-made, hardworking, tenacious, dedicated, innovative, and fearless. Whether it is advising clients on how to protect their business’ assets, or preparing a witness for trial, the goal is always the same: to empower the client, to make them stronger, better, more prepared so that they can reach their goals and succeed. I consider several of my clients to be close personal friends and try to approach each new client with the intention that the relationship be a lasting one.. I have had the unique opportunity to see the practice of law from a variety of different viewpoints having worked for a North Carolina State Court prior to going to law school, clerked for the Department of Justice during law school, and working for a large United States Government contractor and private law firms after graduating law school.. I am a Master Gardener with the North Carolina Mecklenburg County Extension Master Gardeners, and a member of Frazier Park Community Garden.  I am also a member of Carolina Breast Friends where I try to offer advice and comfort to individuals who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.. After being the first in my family to graduate from college, I left the comfort of my hometown in Eastern North Carolina and moved to Washington, D.C., where I quickly became a foodie.  I prefer to spend my free tim surrounded by nature and can often be seen gardening with my partner George in the front yard of their home, riding my bike to the office, and walking out cats, Roger Parker and Marco Money, on a leash in Freedom Park.

I grew up in Asheville, NC and did my undergrad at UNC-Chapel Hill, earning a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Geography.  Following graduation, I worked with the Carolina Covenant Scholarship program at UNC as an assistant to the director and mentor to the Covenant scholars. In this position, I led a task force to narrow the academic achievement gap between students from low-income families and the student body at large. My research efforts and statistical analyses of the Covenant student population lead to the implementation of a proactive, predictive mentorship approach that engages students before they begin to struggle.. During law school, I spent a summer clerking for a business litigation law firm and an academic year working for the school’s pro bono Community Economic Development Clinic. During the clinics, I assisted numerous socially-minded businesses with their legal issues, including a mobile farmers market that sells locally sourced produce and agricultural products to areas in the Charlotte Mecklenburg region designated as food deserts; a nonprofit that makes the wishes of terminally ill children come true; and a nonprofit corporation which provides job training to returning citizens and connects these individuals to jobs in the green skills industry that pay a living wage. In addition, I spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity drafting wills, powers of attorney, and living wills, as well as assisting with construction.. I grew up in a small, rural town in North Carolina where family is an essential aspect of everyone’s life. I came to value the importance of family and what it means when a family goes through a divorce or custody dispute. All families see challenges in many forms from time to time. I realized that more than anything, I just wanted to help all involved. This inspired me to be the first in my family to complete my undergraduate studies. After attending Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina and working around Charlotte, I knew I wanted my life to have a deeper impact. I then attended Charlotte School of Law in Charlotte, North Carolina to obtain my juris doctorate. This helped me to reach my goal be able to advocate for and assist the people of North Carolina and help those families I had come to love.. As an attorney, my goal is for each client to find peace and a reasonable resolution for their family. As an advocate for my clients, I want them to be heard but also empowered with the facts and laws surrounding their case so we can work together to find a path forward. I’ve watched the detrimental effects that pro-longed litigation can cause on a family unit both, emotionally and financially. I understand that people come to me in some of their darkest times for help and that they want to move forward in a positive light; I have the tools and power to help them do so. I appreciate the opportunity to get to know your family and entrusting me with managing healthy expectations and goals for your case.. I pride myself on being professional and prepared for the task at hand. I enjoy getting to know clients through this process. My passion for helping others extends beyond the legal realm. I have been involved in raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association for several years as it is an organization that is near to my heart. Additionally, I use my talents to help victims in domestic violence situations through volunteering with Safe Alliance and by helping children through the Council for Children’s Rights.. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my husband, our two children, and our three dogs. I also enjoy running and listening to a good podcast!

I founded the Turner Law Firm, PLLC in February 07, 2013. I have been licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina since September 2008. I started my career in preparing responses to discovery requests for major corporations in Chicago, Detroit, and Charlotte.. The southern hospitality, warm weather, and growing Charlotte market led me to become a permanent resident in 2012. I enjoy practicing real estate law including land disputes and landlord/tenant matters. I am also passionate about helping people who find themselves in anxiety-ridden situations such as those who have been facing foreclosure and those being harassed by bill collectors. I take cases throughout North Carolina. Debt defense and bankruptcy relief has led me to become licensed in all Federal Districts in North Carolina. On the family law side, I am also an advocate for fairness between the separating spouses and I protect the child’s interests and pride myself in calming the parties in dispute as opposed to creating additional tensions as other attorneys often do.. Surrounding myself with top notch talent, I continue to guide the firm to rapid growth, and past clients’ referrals are a testament to the quality of work the firm produces. Our goal is to be a multifaceted firm in many areas of law, and we continue to add talent and services for our clients’ needs.. I attended college at the University of Iowa having graduated in May 2003 with a Minor in French and Bachelor Degrees in Marketing and Asian Languages and Literature with emphasis in Mandarin Chinese. I discovered my passion for juvenile law by accident. I edited a magazine in Washington, D.C., for years before deciding at age 29 to go to law school.  Following graduation, my husband and I moved to Charlotte and had our first child, who had severe brain damage following several strokes. I put the idea of law on the back burner, volunteering for various charities and advocating for my son.. Eventually I entered the work force again as volunteer coordinator  at the Children's Law Center, a nonprofit dedicated to representing juveniles in all legal matters. Within a year I was representing juveniles in delinquency and mental health commitment hearings, with a foray into special education, but I concentrated on delinquency. Eight years later I opened my own law firm but after two years returned to the Center. I stayed another two years before I had to stop practicing to care for my three boys.  In 2016, I re-entered the legal world at Fisher Law Group. In March of 2020, I began practicing with my husband, Bob Bollinger.. At The Bollinger Law Firm, I maintain my focus on juvenile law by continuing to represent juveniles in delinquency cases and defending parents whose children are in danger of removal from custody by the Department of Social Services or are already in DSS custody.   I also do name changes, emancipation,  expunctions for those interested in cleaning up their  criminal records, and guardianship.
