Melissa L. Garcia is licensed to practice law in North Carolina.  She is a member of the Social Security Disability Advocacy Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. Prior to becoming an attorney, Melissa worked as a paralegal for nine years managing a Social Security Disability practice, and assisting with workers' compensation cases.. Melissa received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2012, where she majored in History and Secondary Education.  She attended law school at Charlotte School of Law, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2015.  During law school, Melissa was Articles Editor for Charlotte Law Review, and a member of the Order of the Crown honor society.  In addition, she worked as a volunteer judicial law clerk at the Charlotte Immigration Court, where she drafted decisions and performed research for cases before the court.. Melissa grew up in the Charlotte, NC, but also lived in Venezuela during her childhood.  She is a product of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, and is proud to have attended the first German Immersion magnet school in Charlotte.  She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in German. After undergrad, Melissa joined Teach For America and taught Spanish at two high needs schools in Charlotte, NC. From her experience as a teacher, she learned that she could make a greater impact through the law and decided to attend law school.. Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and her dog.  Her many hobbies include traveling, hiking, dancing, learning new languages, and studying new cultures.
