I work with my clients to help their families avoid litigation and to find the best possible solution for that client's particular situation.  I believe litigation is not an ideal solution for family law problems, because it discourages open truth-telling and encourages hostility and polarization.  Also, litigation is usually costlier and more time consuming than when parites use collaborative methods to resolve their differences.  The benefits of Collaborative family law methods are that the parties share information and work together to find areas of commonality and solutions that will benefit the whole family.  When parties use collaborative methods, the parties dictate the timing, not the courts, and the process is private.. I also work with parents in high conflict custody situations to decrease the hostility and to help those parents effectively co-parent their children. This type of work is know as Parent Coordination.  I am a certified Parent Coordinator.

I love competition and thrive on being a trial lawyer.  I'm known as the 'DWI Guy' and 100% own it.  It's what I do.  I'm in the Legal Elite Hall of Fame as my colleagues voted me as North Carolina's Top Criminal Law Attorney in 2016.  I appreciate all the awards and recognition, from serving on Law Review to Business NC's Top 30 Under 30, to Super Lawyers, to the National Trial Lawyer's Top 40 Under 40, but it's helping people that makes me truly happy.. What will become clear after speaking with me?. [1] I'm direct and strategically-aggressive.. [2] My niche is getting people (Judges, Lawyers, DA's Office, etc.) to say "Yes" when they don't want to.. [3] Our custom internal-process and checks & balance systems will be relieving.. Being a certified NBA Player Agent (NBPA), the time I don’t spend battling it out in court, I spend either recruiting NBA prospects or reliving my glory days on the basketball court.  I’ve been the Commissioner of the Mecklenburg County Lawyer Basketball League for years.  Check out the photo-section for our recent Championship portrait.  You’ll have the opportunity to hold our 50lb. gavel as it’s proudly displayed as soon as you walk in our building.. I’m a West Virginia native who fights to the end.  I started my professional career in the Corporate & Investment Banking world.  Although very interesting, I didn’t know my personal end-game until I formed RTS Law Group.  Our employees are sharp, passionate, and feel like they are members of my family (some actually are).  This has all been a dream-come-true.  I’m looking forward to fighting on your behalf.

I began my career at the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office.  As a prosecutor,  I handled thousands of cases.  But during that time, I realized my true passion lies with family law.  I'm a zealous advocate both in the courtroom, as well as in negotiations.  This is one of the most stressful times in one's life and I make it a point to approach each case with the compassion it deserves.

I am passionate about the law and I care about my clients. These qualities make me a strong advocate to have on your side during this very difficult time in your life. As a mother, I know how much your children mean to you and how you would do anything to shelter them from harm. Children are often the innocent victims in their parents’ divorce. While it may be impossible to shield them entirely from the impact of your divorce, I will work with you to minimize the impact on your children as much as possible. My goal is to educate you regarding North Carolina law and how it applies to your case, so that you understand all your options. Divorce can be a terrifying experience, but I will empower you with the knowledge of what to expect every step of the way. I majored in mathematics and then worked in the banking industry for many years prior to becoming an attorney, so I have a strong financial background to handle complex financial support and property division cases. I’ve represented clients in Brunswick, Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Rowan, Alexander, Iredell, Catawba, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston and Union counties, on matters involving child custody, child support, equitable distribution, post-separation support, alimony, contempt, and breach of contract claims. Not every case requires litigation, and many cases can be resolved out of court using alternative dispute resolution methods such as collaborative law, arbitration, and mediation. But if litigation becomes necessary, you can rely on my years of trial experience to protect your interests in the courtroom.

I am passionate about my work, I fight hard for my clients, and I work tirelessly to achieve the best results.. My mantra in life has always been, “you can either give up, give in, or give it your all.” Shortly after I was born, my dad took a risk and started his own business working out of our basement. My mom joined him and fearlessly embraced the journey of small business owners with a hoard of three young children. Whether it was my mom knowing how every client took their coffee or my dad’s all-nighters during tax season, from day one my parents taught me the importance of compassion and hard work. Today, these are values that I bring to my work and to my clients.. When I decided to pursue a career in law I was met with a lot of “why?” When I dedicated my career to Family Law I was met with even more “why?” What people often do not understand is that the answer to that question is my WHY. People come to me during one of the most difficult periods in their lives. They are looking for an ally, someone to trust, someone to encourage them to not give up or give in. These people and families are why I chose this career path – to help them weather whatever storm they are facing.. I understand the circumstances requiring a Family Law attorney can be emotional, and I strive to be there for my clients through the entire process. I take pride in giving my all to my clients every day. I will not let you give up or give in, and we will give your case our all, together.. Outside the office you can find me exploring Charlotte with my husband and our three dogs: Indiana, Jackson, and Logan (affectionately known as our wiggle pack). If I am not cycling, you might spot me running down Providence Rd. with the wiggle pack tethered at my side. As a Pennsylvania native I am a proud born and raised Pittsburgh sports fan, forever in competition with my Philadelphia husband.. I am admitted to the state of North Carolina Bar and the United States Direct Court, Western District of North Carolina.

I am an attorney in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I have extensive experience in litigation, specifically family law, domestic cases, and criminal defense. At Soto Law, my focus is on family law matters such asAdoption, Guardianship, Legitimation, Child Custody, Child Support, Equitable Distribution, Post-Separation Support, and Alimony. However, at Soto Law, we also believe in the importance of educating our clients prior to marriage. Therefore, we offer our clients a pre-marital assessment so that they, and their significant other, can be well-versed in the decision they are making and the financial ramifications of the same. In addition to family law matters, I am also well-versed in estate planning and real estate. As such, I am uniquely qualified and able to tackle my clients' issues.. After my admission to the North Carolina Bar Association in 2012, I  practiced criminal defense. During that time, I gained extensive trial and courtroom experience. However, my desire to assist those in the family law sector drew me away from criminal law. I am motivated to advocate for my clients and provide the support that is often needed when going through such a life-changing situation such as divorce.. Although not a native North Carolinian, I am proud to now call Charlotte my home and use my passion for the law to assist my clients. When not practicing law, I enjpy spending time with my family, exploring local restaurants and breweries, traveling, and watching the Florida State Seminoles and Carolina Panthers play. If you or someone you know has a family law issuse, please call my office and I would be happy to assist you through this difficult time.

Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina I learned to focus my energy on finding a solution rather than worrying about the problem. This mindset inevitably led me to my profession as an attorney.. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a business degree in Economics. I immediately began work in the financial field helping people navigate the world of small business loans. The following year I received the Fourth Ward Scholarship to attend Charlotte School of Law. While attending Charlotte School of Law I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience through internships with the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office, the Law Offices of C. Reid Beaver, and Legal Aid of North Carolina.. Upon graduating from Charlotte School of Law and passing the North Carolina State Bar Exam, Nicki Fisher and I began working together. We started Fisher Law Group with the goal to create a law firm that focused on the clients in and out of the courtroom. I have limited my representation to Family Law, Juvenile Law, and Criminal Law. Fatina’s area of expertise is family law. Ironically, she did not always know that she wanted to be an attorney. She began her career as a social worker because she knew that she wanted to make a positive change in the world. As time progressed, she realized that the best way to change the world was to help children and families. Although she enjoyed her prior career, she felt that there was something else for her. She desired to make a larger impact in the lives of children and families. She knew that as an attorney she could continue to be an advocate for children and families by providing legal representation to family law clients.. In addition to family law cases, Fatina has experience handling cases involving real property disputes, domestic violence, and cases involving restraining orders.  Fatina also has experience with real estate closings. She is not a stranger to the courtroom. As such, she spends a great deal of her time in court advocating for her clients at least once a week and sometimes multiple times a week. In line with her passion for children and families, Fatina has experience with Mecklenburg County Guardian Ad Litem. Specifically, Fatina provided legal representation for abused, neglected, and dependent children. However, she received a large amount of her litigation experience through taking on clients in the NCCU Clinical Legal Education Program's Family Law Clinic. Fatina enjoys being in the courtroom, and she takes the utmost care and attention to detail when handling her cases.. Fatina enjoys giving back to her community through volunteering with her church, Sugar Creek Church of Christ. She created a ministry with other lawyers in her congregation called Lawyers Inspired by God’s Heartfelt Truth (LIGHT Ministry). The lawyers within the LIGHT Ministry provide pro bono legal services and educational workshops within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.
