I have dedicated my practice to criminal defense.  My work is centered on major felonies including homicides and major federal offenses including terrorism defense.  I am a state public defender commisioner.  In 2010 I was awarded the Donald C. Schumacher Life Saver award for excellence in capital defense by the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys.  A complete list of the major cases of mine appear on my website.  I am AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.  In appellate work, I have appeared before the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals as often or more than any other private defense counsel in this state.. I have spoken at criminal seminars at least once a year on a wide variety of topics, including voir dire, prosecutor misconduct, yearly case reviews and mitigation of sentences.. I work with one associate, Kimberly Kendall.  She handles most of my midemeanor work and assists on the major trial.  I employ law students and a secretary.  Although I work with a staff, the final product is mine.  I do not sign my name to a document I did not personally prepare.. My office is in an 1880 era building that we have restored.  It is part of the neighborhood redevelopment.  There is free parking at the office.
