Since beginning in the practice of immigration law more than 30 years ago, the most important thing I have learned is to not predict or anticipate a negative outcome to a case. I will not accept a legal matter that I think is frivolous or not supported by law, but there are many cases in which hard work, study of the law and creative advocacy can influence the interpretation of a difficult issue, or gain favorable exercise of discretion of an immigration official or judge. As a colleague taught me a long time ago, if something is not prohibited, it is permitted. Immigration lawyers occupy a peculiar space where, often, government practices are not policies, policies are not rules, rules are not law, and both rules and law seem to be dispensed with, with hardly a second thought. We are persuasive advocates when we bring whatever authority we can muster to bear on a given situation. The adjudicator or IJ will say, "what? there is a rule or a law to apply?" And that can make all the difference in a given case.
Since 2001, I have been representing clients at The Law Offices of Kameli and Associates in all aspects of business law, corporate law, and family-related immigration, including employment and employment-creation (EB-5) immigrant visas. In various employment matters, including labor litigation and avoidance, wrongful cancelation and contractual dispute, discrimination, equal employment, and wage and overtime claims, he also represents employers and employees.. I have experience in corporate management, contract disputes, franchise issues, start-ups, and many corporate and company law businesses. I have also represented clients in U.S. federal and state courts as well as several federal, state, and local authorities.. I have appeared and argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. While in law school, I served as a judicial intern to the Hon. Patrick E. McGann of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. I also was a member and co-editor of The Seventh Circuit Review Honors Journal. I published the article: Seeking Asylum in a Hostile System: The Seventh Circuit Reverses to Confront a Broken Process (2006).
