John Bell is a native of central Ohio. He attended Miami University of Ohio from 1977 through 1980 and received a B.A. in psychology. He then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law and was awarded his J.D. in March 1984. He was admitted in to the Ohio Bar in May 1984 and the Tennessee Bar in 1995. Apart from a short stint as a Managing Attorney and Project Director in a Tennessee Legal Aid office and a Senior Attorney in a legal aid support office, he has been in the private, solo practice of law since his admission.. His practice primarily serves a Hispanic clientele, often in Immigration Court and family courts. He is General Counsel, pro bono, to the Ohio S.P.C.A., Inc., three County Humane Societies and several animal rescue charities.. He is probably best known for using the Consumer Sales Practices Act to close down an Eastern Ohio puppy mill, and Mandamus actions to compel county animal shelters to comply with the Revised Code, and to end the use of "gassing" as a method of euthanasia.
I provide uniquely client-driven representation to people facing criminal or parole issues and to victims in criminal cases. You are in the driver's seat with me as your representative. My premium knowledge, education, and commitment will help maximize your chance of receiving the outcome you want. Additionally, all net proceeds from my practice fund advocacy working in criminal justice and other civic areas, so, when you hire me, you are helping yourself or your loved one and society at large. Call me to discuss your situation for free - with no obligation.. I can guarantee that I will explain the issues in your case in a way that is clear and easy to understand. We will take the time to make sure we are on the same page. Critically, I also have the skill to translate those same issues into the technical form that will be clear and precise to the judges, hearing officers, parole board members, or jurors.. To see my appellate presentation style, click on the video link to see my Oral Argument before the Ohio Supreme Court in State v. Whitfield. I begin at 16:37. It may seem technical, but, in appeals, the attorney is adressing only judges (not jurors or other laypeople). The technical nature of appeals is precisely why having an experienced attorney is critical.. I also hold the following federal court admissions:. United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. United States Court of Appeal for the Sixth Circuit
