Hello, I am Brooks Derrick.. I am the owner and lawyer behind the Law Office of M. Brooks Derrick, LLC, and I help folks put their life back together.. When someone has been injured or victimized, the most important thing is their recovery—not only physically, but also emotionally and financially, but that is stifled when insurance companies, municipalities, and large corporations continually tear them apart. In these situations, we provide people with the help they need so that they can quit worrying and get back to what matters most—their recovery.. My Story. I graduated from Mauldin High School in 1993, and my family has deep roots in the Simpsonville area. But after graduation, I chased my dreams of soccer immortality to Gardner-Webb University, which were subsequently extinguished when the now-defunct South Carolina Shamrocks cut me in 1999.. Then, much to everyone’s dismay, I chased a career as a scientist from Clemson University, where I received Masters in Biomedical Engineering, to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While there, I worked in the Microbiology and Immunology Department under a fantastic husband and wife research team.. As a part of that team, I learned a lot about the role the law played in intellectual property and patent rights, and when a brand new law school opened there in 2004, I (for some odd reason) turned my focus from science to the law and enrolled at the Charleston School of Law.. When I graduated from law school in 2007, I started a promising legal career at Nexsen Pruet, LLC, but I quickly realized that I was not cut out for life in a law firm. As a result, I opened the Law Office of M. Brooks Derrick, LLC in Charleston in 2008.. When the doors opened, we served a wide variety of clients in an even wider array of practice areas, but we gravitated to helping people that were either injured or arrested navigate the legal system. Their encounters with the legal system were always daunting for them, and as the practice blossomed, we helped countless folks recover and put their life back together.. But in May 2015, the most important woman in my life passed away. Virginia Bickley Derrick was the greatest grandmother a person could ever ask for, and her death shook me to the core.. Following her passing, my goals and dreams changed substantially, and I turned my focus to my focus to my family and my hometown. As a result, we packed up the house and the office and moved back home in the fall of 2015.. Since that time, we opened our office at 224 NE Main Street in Simpsonville, SC, and we are serving our community and helping many old friends navigate the legal system. Not to mention, we have a weekly lunch date with my grandfather at the Coach House.. My Family. I am married to a wonderfully, talented lady, Andrea Sansom Derrick. We are expecting our first child in July 2018, and we love pretending to be chefs in the evenings.. When I am not practicing law, I am a serial Do-It-Yourselfer with my most recent accomplishments being the (continued) remodel of our office at 224 NE Main Street in Simpsonville and this website. I am also a closet geek that loves all things Apple and Star Wars related.
