Sandy Furman has over 34 years of experience serving clients in the area of divorce and family law. My main area of practice includes all aspects of Family Law, including divorce, custody, modifications and litigation.   I treat each case as if it were my own and focus on getting the best possible results for my clients.  My background includes  graduation from Framingham State University, cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree.  I next attended the University of Pennsylvania for graduate studies.  I then attended New England School of Law, where I received my Juris Doctorate, cum laude,  in 1989.  I was awarded New England scholar status. Recognizing the need to give each case individual attention I co-founded my law firm Karpenski & Schmelkin, LLC, where we give every case our individual attention and priority.

KIMBERLEY J. JOYCE, ESQ. established her current practice in late 2016, after being an associate with Lee & Rivers LLP (formerly Lee & Levine LLP) from early 2007 until late 2016.  Ms. Joyce is a 2002 graduate of Boston College (summa cum laude with distinction in Economics), where she was a member of the honor society Alpha Sigma Nu, and a 2005 graduate of Suffolk University Law School, where she was a recipient of the Jurisprudence Award in Professional Responsibility.  Ms. Joyce is admitted to practice in Massachusetts state courts and before the U.S. District Court, the First Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.. Ms. Joyce is a member of the Family Law sections of both the Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations, and is member of the Amicus Committee of the Massachusetts Bar Association.  She is Vice Chair of the MBA’s Family Law Section Council, and past chair of that Council’s education committee.. Ms. Joyce has maintained an active role in the MBA’s continuing legal education programs, both in developing ongoing courses and authoring course materials, and also in moderating and acting as panelist in programs.  She was Program Chair of and lecturer at the MBA’s 2009 “Recent Developments in Family Law” seminar and author of the program materials.  She was a contributing author for the MBA’s 2011 and 2012 Family Law Conferences and a panelist at the 2012 Family Law Conference.  She was a moderator and dual panelist at the MBA’s 2014 Family Law Conference; a panelist at the MBA’s 2014 and 2015 programs on Critical Tax and Creative Compensation Issues and co-author of the materials for those programs; and co-chair of the 2016 and 2017 Family Law Conference committees.. Ms. Joyce has also been a contributing author for program materials of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and has authored a chapter regarding alimony in divorce practice in the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Lexis/Nexis Massachusetts Family Law practice manual.. Ms. Joyce is a trained conciliator and mediator, and a volunteer in the Norfolk and Middlesex County “Lawyer for the Day” programs.  She has been recognized as a Massachusetts “Rising Star” by Boston Magazine’s and Law & Politics’ Super Lawyer publication.

Jennifer entered private practice after starting her career as an Assistant District Attorney in Middlesex County where she prosecuted major felony cases in both the District and Superior Courts, and gained extensive trial experience.  During her tenure at the District Attorney’s Office, Jennifer successfully argued a case of first impression before the Supreme Judicial Court (Commonwealth v. Peace Chou) and successfully argued a case before the Appeals Court (Commonwealth v. Samosa Ruiz).   Jennifer draws upon her diverse employment experience to effectively and zealously advocate for her clients in order to achieve positive results.  Jennifer believes positive results are achieved by keeping the needs of the client and his/her family in the forefront of the case and utilizing an analytical, yet practical approach, to achieve a satisfactory result.  Jennifer is also a certified family law mediator and conciliator.   Whenever possible, she helps individuals and clients through Alternative Dispute Resolution, including, negotiation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration.  Jennifer is an on-camera contributing legal analyst for WBZ-TV (CBS-Boston).  She provides meaningful and insightful on-camera commentary on legal cases of both national and local interest.  Jennifer has provided on-camera legal commentary on the Whitey Bulger indictments and arrest, the Clark Rockefeller trial, the Christa Worthington trial and verdict and the Kimberly Cates trial in New Hampshire.  For six years, Jennifer was honored as a Massachusetts Rising Star in Massachusetts Super Lawyers/Boston Magazine, an honor awarded to only 2.5% of lawyers. Jennifer has also been honored as a Top New England Woman Attorney.

CAL HEINLE represents clients in all areas of family law, including complex litigation and mediation, as well as the negotiation and drafting of Separation, Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements. He has mediated and served as an arbitrator/master for contested custody, support and complex asset division cases and is regularly appointed by the judges of the Probate and Family Court to serve as discovery master or special master in complex cases. In both 2016 and 2017 he was selected into the Best Lawyers in America for family law and family law mediation. Cal has lectured on family law issues for MCLE, MBA, BBA and New England School of Law. He also served as the Editor of the Massachusetts Family Law Journal from 2007 through 2009. Cal previously served as an elected council member of the Middlesex County Bar Association and was named Chairman of the Education Committee. In this position, Cal oversaw the organization of various training seminars for lawyers.. Cal was formerly an associate with Todd & Weld LLP and later Ginsburg Leshin Gibbs & Jones LLP, where he would ultimately be named partner. During law school he served as an intern for the Justices of the Boston Municipal Court and as a law clerk for Children's Legal Services in Brookline. Cal was named a New England Rising Star® on multiple occasions among lawyers in Massachusetts in Boston Magazine.. Cal is a proud graduate of both SUNY Oswego and New England School of Law - Boston. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Massachusetts. Cal is a member of the Middlesex County Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, and Norfolk Bar Association.
