After graduation, Ms. Urbon engaged in a professional career in New York City while continuing her advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence through volunteer work as a legal intern with Sanctuary for Families.. After graduating from law school, Ms. Urbon chose to focus her career on family law, specializing in child abuse and neglect cases. While pursuing a private practice, she worked as a volunteer attorney with the Washtenaw County Office of the Public Defender Juvenile Abuse and Neglect section, before accepting a staff attorney position with the Detroit Center for Family Advocacy in 2013. In this role, and later as Executive Director of the Center, Ms. Urbon advocated on behalf of parents and caregivers facing legal issues that impacted a child’s entry into, or exit from, the foster care system. In 2018, Ms. Urbon accepted a position as the Director of Legal Advocacy and Prevention with The New Foster Care whose mission was to make a transformative change in the Michigan child protection system. Ms. Urbon was promoted to Executive Director in 2021, and lead the agency through the implementation of a direct service program targeted at assisting youth who aged out of foster to transition to successful adulthood. Ms. Urbon returned to the practice of law in 2024, incorporating Urbon Law, PLLC.
