My background includes 15 consecutive years as a paralegal in family law, litigation and criminal defense. In 2000, after a lengthy decision process, I applied for admission to law school. I was initially accepted and started law school at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in 2002 and transferred back to the University of Denver in 2004. While in law school, I worked full time in addition to caring for my three children. Usually, it takes 3 years to earn a law degree but working full time required a longer commitment. I graduated in 2007.. I understand many of the hardships, stress and difficulties people face when dealing with the legal system. When children are involved, the process appears even more stressful and only adds to an already heartbreaking situation. I work hard to create a cooperative working relationship with all my clients and make every attempt to be available at reasonable times. As my current and past clientele can attest, I am approachable and do not make anyone feel as though they cannot discuss anything required to alleviate concerns. Luis Monroy is a Colorado native and has a Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and minored in history at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  While in undergraduate school, he volunteered with the Student Worker Alliance Program where he taught English and life skills to migrant workers who were employed through the University.. Upon being accepted to law school, Luis received the Robert B. Yegge Memorial Scholarship.  After his first year, he interned with the Douglas County Office of the Public Defender where he worked on a high-profile death penalty case.  He later participated in the Criminal Defense Clinic where he worked as a student attorney on five municipal cases in various jurisdictions around the Denver metro area.  Luis concluded his law school career by interning with a private firm focusing his attention on criminal defense, family law, and the emerging regulations concerning Amendment 64.  Luis was also the co-president of one of the largest law student organizations on campus during his third year of law school.. After graduating in 2013, Luis interned with the Colorado Juvenile Defender Coalition where he was able to participate in a legislative interim committee concerning reform in juvenile defense.   In addition to policy work, Luis also implemented community outreach strategies in the Denver metro area for juvenile justice in Colorado.. Luis strives to be an impassioned advocate in his legal work and wants to make sure that his clients’ rights are protected at all times.  He knows that clients have struggles and emotional hardships attached to their legal issues, and will do everything he can to lessen the burden.  Since joining the firm, he has assisted in child custody disputes, divorce cases, DUI's, misdemeanors and felony criminal defense cases.
