Melissa has lived in Mesa, Arizona for nearly 40 years. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Melissa was a paralegal for 14 years in Mesa and Phoenix.  She has extensive experience in civil litigation, particularly insurance defense, medical malpractice and personal injury.. During law school she was a law clerk at a Phoenix Law firm working in the areas of personal injury and commercial litigation.  She was also a legal extern at Legal Aid of Arizona working primarily in landlord/tenant disputes.. I am an experienced attorney dedicated to helping clients successfully memorialize their end of life wishes and adequately prepare for their possible incapacitation. I follow a "boutique firm" format that allows me to provide clients meaningful personalized services.. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and graduated from Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor Law School in December of 1992.. I started as a law clerk at the Maricopa County Public Defender's Office right after I graduated from law school and began handling cases as soon as I passed the bar exam in the spring of 1993. As a public defender, I was in court litigating almost every day. By the time I left the Public Defender's office I was training and supervising new recruits.. In 1999 I left government work for private practice. I had enjoyed family law classes in school and found the transition easy and the new area of practice a good fit. My degree and experience in psychology have also been a tremendous resource. It was then that I realized how many of my clients were running into problems because of poor or no end of life planning. And I fell in love with yet another area of law: estate planning (probate, trust administration and adult guardianship)!. Through my 31 years of practice I have been involved in many Arizona State Bar committees, a Supreme Court committee, as well as other law related organizations, such as Los Abogados. As an estate planning attorney, I find the State Bar Probate and Trust Section a tremendous resource.
