After briefly working in child protection, Kimberlie felt compelled to attend law school so she could more effectively advocate for her clients.  She graduated from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2006.  During law school she volunteered at the Hennepin County Self-Help Center in Downtown Minneapolis, the Neighborhood Justice Center in St. Paul, and with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program.  After graduating law school in 2006, she returned home to Fargo to raise her children and begin her career as a lawyer..
