At Kerkman & Dunn, our team of attorneys offers a depth of experience you would only otherwise find at a large firm. As a small firm, we provide personalized and hands-on attention to each client and are able to avoid conflicts. With our skilled business litigation lawyers, our team has the bandwidth to handle even the most complicated business litigation and bankruptcy issues.. Jerry's interest in chapter 11 cases and business litigation began during his third year of law school, more than 30 years ago. He interned with Judge C.N. Clevert who was a bankruptcy judge at the time and later became a district court judge in Milwaukee. While in law school, Jerry wrote a law review article that studied the effects of the then new 1978 Bankruptcy Code in chapter 11 cases. The article was published as the lead article in the Marquette Law Review: The Debtor in Full Control: A Case for Adoption of the U.S. Trustee System, 70 Marq. L. Rev. 159 (1987).. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin law school, Jerry immediately represented chapter 11 debtors with a mid-size Milwaukee firm and eventually worked for one of the largest firms in Milwaukee before founding Kerkman & Dunn in 2006. Kerkman & Dunn grew to be one of the most successful chapter 11 boutique firms in the Midwest and in May of 2017 was joined by the lawyers from Wagner Law Group, a litigation boutique in Milwaukee to become Kerkman Wagner & Dunn. It practices bankruptcy throughout the State of Wisconsin and in Northern Illinois, and has represented large chapter 11 debtors in bankruptcy courts in Madison, Wausau, Chicago and of course Milwaukee.. Jerry and Kerkman Wagner & Dunn have represented creditors' committees, individual creditors and chapter 11 debtors. Their approach is often innovative. For example, the leading case to consolidate a large number of chapter 11 debtors into a smaller, more manageable number of debtors was approved recently by the bankruptcy and district courts in Milwaukee in the Bruckner decision. Jerry has also developed and led claim processes that took a large number of claims and resolved disputes to them with minimal court hearings. The firm's approach to cases usually results in a confirmed plan of reorganization because it emphasizes a business approach to cases; before filing a case, the exit strategy must be known.. Jerry and the firm look forward to the challenges of complex chapter 11 cases and obtaining a positive result for their clients.

After graduating law school I realized that my focus as an attorney should be on helping individuals. I began doing criminal defense work when I realized how earthshattering criminal allegations and the legal system can be to individuals. I take my role, of providing a voice to the accused, very seriously. I also enjoy helping individuals who have become overwhelmed with financial issues. I enjoy working with clients to restore normalcy to their lives and a fresh start in a Bankruptcy.
After earning my degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School, I put my extensive educational experiences to work, assisting many of the top attorneys in the State of Wisconsin with their practices. The time has now come when I am ready to put those lessons to work. To that end, I have opened my own office, August Law Office L.L.C., so that I may continue to work and practice in the great city of Madison.. I enjoy the challenges--intellectual and otherwise--that come with this line of work. I know the harships my clients face and I am very proud to stand at their side and defend their rights--including their absolute right to be presumed innocent.. At August Law Office L.L.C. I believe in a client-centric theory of legal counseling. Call today to discuss your case with an attorney who cares.

"Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are". Sickened by the state of our criminal "justice" system, the dehuminazation of criminal defendants, and the blatant disrespect of personal rights afforded to the people by the U.S. Constitution, Attorney Nicole Muller has dedicated her life to a career that attempts to address issues that plague criminal defendants in Wisconsin.. In a world where over 95% of criminal cases are resolved through plea agreements, Attorney Muller prides herself in the level of representation she provides to each of her clients--representation that focuses on pre-trial issues and motions; representation that does not seek the best plea agreement, but rather seeks justice.. Based on these passions, Attorney Muller has worked with the Racine County Public Defender’s office to create a sentencing manual that attempted to reduce racial prejudice from detrimentally impacting a defendant’s sentence. Attorney Muller has also worked on issues surrounding the disproportional impact cash bail programs have on Milwaukee’s and Wisconsin’s urban poor; racial discrepancies in the courtroom and how jury pooling practices ultimately reduce a minority defendant from having a jury that represents a fair cross section of his or her community; and many other issues impacting criminal defendants here in Wisconsin.. Now, Attorney Muller is an Attorney at Birdsall Obear & Associates, LLC--a firm that exclusivley practices criminal defense. Focusing only on criminal defense has allowed Attorney Muller, and Birdsall Obear & Associates, to aquire the skills and knowledge to provide individuals with over-the-top representation. If interested in talking with Attorney Muller, feel free to contact Birdsall Obear & Associates.
