I have a strong belief the role of a family lawyer is to guide my clients through a process that is often complicated and stressful. Through my years of practice I have found the number one driving force behind the disputes is fear. Fear of the unknown has an incredibly powerful influence on both the parties. I feel it is important to advocate strongly on behalf of my clients, but part of that advocacy is a duty to redefine the family unit without destroying it. No two cases are ever the same and as such I carefully evaluate each and every individual's goals. I take an educational approach because I respect my client's ability to partake in the process. While I do my best to see whether we can resolve the issues without taking them before a Judge, I understand there are some issues which require judicial determination.. In the event one of my cases proceeds to the point of trial I make absolutely certain the case and my client are fully prepared. I take a realistic and straight forward approach to the trial. In my opinion there are very few cases which require judicial intervention if an attorney genuinely understands the laws and is familiar with the particular Judge assigned to the case. However, this does not necessarily translate into the opponent taking a realistic stance on the issues and this is an unfortunate obstacle to resolution without a trial.. Whenever I am consulted for a legal problem I always encourage my potential clients to interview more than one attorney. Why? Because you should trust who you hire; you must feel confident in communicating the good and the bad facts of your position; and you must feel confident with their knowledge and ability to competently assist you. If your situation was not important, you would not be seeking legal counsel - make sure the person you hire respects this above all else or you are in for disappointment.

I don't take every case.  I try to take cases where there is evidence of innocence and/or a political reason that someone is being picked on by the Government.  I focus all of my time and energy on criminal defense.  I am influenced by being a graduate of Gerry Spence's highly prestigious Trial Lawyers College.  At this school in Wyoming I learned how to speak the truth to succeed for clients.  In addition to my law degree from UW Madison, I have two masters degrees: in counseling and political studies.  In law school I won the celebrated Sigman award for "scholarship, character, and contribution to the community."  I am proud of having an outstanding trial record and being known for my caring attitude towards clients.. I charge a flat fee for all of my services.  I do this so that you and I can both focus on what needs to be done to win your case without worrying about the hours involved.  When appropriate, I actually look forward to going to trial.  Being charged with a crime can be a frightening and humiliating experience, but I know that every person has done amazing things in their life and has the potential to do even better.  I take very seriously my opportunity to help you so that you can make the most of your life.. For over fifteen years, I've been fighting and winning criminal appeals in Wisconsin. Day in and day out, I come to my office to fight the system that has incarcerated my clients. And I do that work as a professional appellate attorney. That's almost all I do: fight for my clients as a criminal appeals attorney.. You should know: if you're appealing a conviction in Wisconsin, the State will be represented by an attorney who only handles criminal appeals. In other words, the State's going to have a professional appellate attoreny on its side. You should too.. You wouldn't hire a heart surgeon to do brain surgery. Don't hire a trial attorney to handle your appeal. Hire a professional appellate attorney and make it a fair fight against the State.

Firm: Kerkman & Dunn

At Kerkman & Dunn, our team of attorneys offers a depth of experience you would only otherwise find at a large firm. As a small firm, we provide personalized and hands-on attention to each client and are able to avoid conflicts. With our skilled business litigation lawyers, our team has the bandwidth to handle even the most complicated business litigation and bankruptcy issues.. Jerry's interest in chapter 11 cases and business litigation began during his third year of law school, more than 30 years ago.  He interned with Judge C.N. Clevert who was a bankruptcy judge at the time and later became a district court judge in Milwaukee.  While in law school, Jerry wrote a law review article that studied the effects of the then new 1978 Bankruptcy Code in chapter 11 cases.  The article was published as the lead article in the Marquette Law Review: The Debtor in Full Control: A Case for Adoption of the U.S. Trustee System, 70 Marq. L. Rev. 159 (1987).. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin law school, Jerry immediately represented chapter 11 debtors with a mid-size Milwaukee firm and eventually worked for one of the largest firms in Milwaukee before founding Kerkman & Dunn in 2006.  Kerkman & Dunn grew to be one of the most successful chapter 11 boutique firms in the Midwest and in May of 2017 was joined by the lawyers from Wagner Law Group, a litigation boutique in Milwaukee  to become Kerkman Wagner & Dunn.  It practices bankruptcy throughout the State of Wisconsin and in Northern Illinois, and has represented large chapter 11 debtors in bankruptcy courts in Madison, Wausau, Chicago and of course Milwaukee.. Jerry and Kerkman Wagner & Dunn have represented creditors' committees, individual creditors and chapter 11 debtors.  Their approach is often innovative.  For example, the leading case to consolidate a large number of chapter 11 debtors into a smaller, more manageable number of debtors was approved recently by the bankruptcy and district courts in Milwaukee in the Bruckner decision.  Jerry has also developed and led claim processes that took a large number of claims and resolved disputes to them with minimal court hearings.  The firm's approach to cases usually results in a confirmed plan of reorganization because it emphasizes a business approach to cases; before filing a case, the exit strategy must be known.. Jerry and the firm look forward to the challenges of complex chapter 11 cases and obtaining a positive result for their clients.
