I have a very strong work ethic developed from my years as a Division I college basketball player.  This work ethic has been key to my success as an attorney. I am a dedicated husband and father.  I am an Eagle Scout.

I began practicing law when I graduated from law school and got a law license in August of 2000.  I hung up my shingle and opened a solo law office, intending that my practice would be in the trial courts -- trying cases for individual persons.  I have been trying cases and representing people charged with  serious criminal offenses for over 20 years, and have tried dozens of ciminal cases before juries, with charges ranging from misdemeanor appeals to capital murder. I began to focus exclusively on criminal cases in 2011. Jury trials are unique and challenging.  There are always valuable things to be learned from every trial, whatever the outcome. There is a saying, usually applied to warfare or other adversarial situations, that "no plan survives contact with the enemy". Maybe with jury trials the more apt saying might be, "no plan matters if the jury doesn't get it,like it, etc."  But the state prosecutor, inspite of many other built-in advantages (like having the first and last word if the defendant puts on evidence) potentially has that same problem with a jury. So the greatest opportunity (maybe the only opportunity) for an accused person to make a decision to take an action that may result in the preservation of their liberty, may be their right to demand a jury trial.. I am a native North Carolinian and am proud to represent the good folks of North Carolina.  My goal is to represent my clients' best interests and provide guidance and support through their difficult times.  Even though the effects of divorce and separation often have unpleasant consequences, I focus my efforts to minimize these effects to my clients.  it is my mission to guide my clients through this time zealously representing their interests, while at the same time preserving a level of class and dignity that will serve them and their family well.  I always strive to provide sound and compassionate representation.. When not practicing law I love cheering on the Tar Heels to victory.  I also enjoy spending time at the beach with my wife collecting sea shells and experiencing all that our wonderful state's coast has to offer.  I also enjoy dedicating time to working with the future lawyers of our state by providing wisdom and guidance through judging and participation in mock trial competitions.

Erin was born and raised in North Carolina, and there is no place else she would rather live.  Erin returned to private practice in 2015 after several years representing the Carteret County Department of Social Services in child support and child protective services matters.  Erin now concentrates her practice on all areas of family law: separation and divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, property distribution, domestic violence, same sex marriage issues, and adoption.  She especially enjoys helping her clients find practical and cost effective solutions that work for their unique family situations.. Erin received her bachelor's degree with honors from Meredith College.  After working for several years in an administrative support position with the United States Probation Office, Erin decided to pursue a law degree.  She graduated from The Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University in 2008.  Erin joined Beswick & Goines, PLLC in the summer of 2008.. Erin also serves on the Paralegal Advisory Board at Carteret Community College and is a member of College's adjunct faculty.  She is also the Vice President of the Carteret County Bar Association.  Erin's favorite community activity is playing on the firm's trivia team, The Bee Gees, in the annual trivia bee fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal Carolina.. In her free time, Erin takes advantage of living in a coastal community and heads to the beach.  She also enjoys traveling the South, listening to live music, watching college football, and spending time with her husband and their two children.

Cecil S. Harvell is an experienced attorney with an AV Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating in Trusts and Estates, General Practice, and Elder Law. Born and raised in Morehead City, North Carolina, he was admitted to the Georgia State Bar in 1983 and the North Carolina State Bar in 1987. In addition to his legal career, he has been involved in many community organizations. He has served as President of the Carteret County Bar Association, Carteret County Habitat for Humanity, and the Carteret County Chapter of the North Carolina Symphony. He has also held leadership positions with the North Carolina Symphony, the Beaufort Historical Association, and First Citizens Bank. His professional memberships include the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the East Carolina Estate Planning Council. He is also an active member of First Presbyterian Church and the Morehead City Lookout Rotary. When he is not working or serving the community, he enjoys boating, sailing, traveling, and writing.
