Patrick Costa is a graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Law. He began his career in private practice representing clients in a variety of areas including family, dissolution, criminal, and civil matters. He was later appointed as an Assistant Public Defender in Jefferson County, Illinois representing individuals in criminal and juvenile proceedings. He then joined the Office of the Jefferson County State’s Attorney as a felony prosecutor where he specialized in prosecuting violent crime and property offenses. During his time with the Public Defender and State’s Attorney offices, Patrick prosecuted or defended thousands of criminal cases including conducting several jury trials.

I love being a lawyer and I love helping my clients with their cases. My entire staff feels the same way. I live in Mount Vernon. I am married to an attorney (Scott Quinn, head public defender for Jefferson County). We raise our children here and are active in our community. I have lived in Southern Illinois, since 1987.  Since I am a transplant from the Chicago area, I did not attend school here and am not familiar with the general gossip about people around town.  I find that a lot of clients prefer to have lawyers who are not already involved in either parties' business in some form or fashion.. I have previously resided in Mantachie, Mississippi; and Winthrop Harbor, Illinois.  I have spent a great deal of time in the St. Louis area, as well as traveling in and outside of the USA.  I have traveled internationally to Australia, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas.  I find studying the legal systems and social systems in other cultures to be absolutely fascinating!.
