I worked in the mental health field for a number of years prior to attending Law School at the University of Montana.  I was a prosecutor in Yakima County for 8 years and also acted as a Judge Pro-Tem for the City of Yakima.  Since 2009 I have been practicing as a criminal defense attorney.. I joined Northwest Justice Project in December 2018. I am working on the Skagit Justice Project, which focuses on providing wraparound services to sruvivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and sex trafficking. Most of my practice involves family law issues (divorce, parenting plans, child support, etc.), in addition, we provide legal services on any issues impacted by being the target of sexualized violence, including housing, consumer, education, and more.. I have worked  as an attorney since 1994. I have represented thousands of clients and am proud that every one of my clients know they had a fighting advocate on their side. Personally, I am blessed to have been married over twenty years to my wife, Julie and we have three amazing children. I am an avid sport's fan and have volunteered countless hours coaching youth sports and administering youth sports leagues. I have served my community as an elected school board member and as a volunteer for several nonprofit groups. In addition to working as a private attorney, I have worked as a Tribal Prosecutor, Tribal Judge, and as a College Professor and Paralegal. instructor. I have spent half my life in New England, and half in Washington State, with a stint living abroad in the middle. I studied Linguistics at the University of Washington, and have varying levels of understanding in Spanish, Japanese, and French. (One could also argue the peaks and valleys of my fluency in English...). Thanks to my supportive dad, I studied the law through Washington State's Law Clerk program, and somehow passed the bar exam after working in the legal field for over 10 years.. I have a degree in accounting that helps me crunch numbers better than most, from U of W. I've been a die-hard Husky since the 70s, Go Dawgs!. With my wife, I rescue and re-home dogs, particularly older or injured dogs that don't have a lot of hope to escape euthanasia. We have helped chihuahuas, papillons, pit bulls, labs, corgis, bulldogs, cattle dogs, schipperkes, rottweilers, retrievers, collies, and everything in between.. I am a member of WOOFD2, a club for participants in frisbee dog sports. My dog Babe was a state champion who toured the country and even went to Canada to promote her sport.. I enjoy fishing, golfing, boating, skiing, bowling, and all sorts of other sports. I have been a member of National Ski Patrol for 5 years, and I love to ski the Summit at Snoqualmie. (Though nothing compares to Whistler Blackcomb or Big White!). In my free time (of which I have very little) I can be found reading sports and political biographies, grilling on my deck, or hanging out watching the Golf Channel.

After graduating from Gonzaga University School of Law, I practiced law in the Territory of Guam for close to seven years. After a few years practicing in a local law firm, I opened my own practice. During this time, I also met and married my husband who was in the US Navy. After Guam we relocated to Michigan where I worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney while my husband completed his medical training. After 4 years in Michigan, we received military orders to Sicily, Italy, and eventually back to the Pacific Northwest. My travels and varying work experiences have allowed me to enjoy different perspectives. I am always up for a challenge and the opportunity to assist clients to the best of my abilities.
