He returned to take the Wisconsin Bar and began practicing in Waupun and Green Lake until 2001 when he started his own firm in Ripon, Wisconsin. Tom also ran a solo practice in Ripon until 2009, when he moved to the Fox Cities to practice law focusing on consumer and business bankruptcy, financial matters and family law.
