I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, which is where I attended law school at the Hastings College of the Law. At Hastings, I concentrated on employment law and disability law, and I am most passionate about representing injured workers. I started practicing Workers Compensation in 2001 and have been doing so ever since. I believe I am a zealous advocate for my clients, and know very intimately what it is like to go through a life altering experience like a severe work injury. I am proud to be an associate of the Law Offices of John E. Hill. Our firm practices workers compensation as well as Civil law, so you get the comprehensive services you deserve. Give me a call, and even if I cannot represent you, I will do whatever I can to help you.
I have practiced over 20 years in the Bay Area representing athletes, entertainers and high-profile businesses. After representing hundreds of athletes in their Workers' Compensation cases against teams for their injuries, we opened our practice to all workers. Our firm specializes in great client services to get the best results for all of our clients. We represent hundreds of workers from all walks of life, health care, union workers, police officers, firefighters, tech workers and farm workers. We pride ourselves on client service and aggressive advocacy.. Pacific Workers' Compensation Law Center is a wholly owned division of Farber & Company Attorneys. We are 100% dedicated to serving injured workers.. We accept and have done all kinds of injured worker cases from smaller injuries to death claims. The law firm is AV Rated by Martindale-Hubbel, the highest level of competence and ethics bestowed on a firm. I have been named a Northern California Superlawyer 4 times and to the Best Lawyers in California multiple times.
I am committed to helping our clients achieve maximum results.. I have worked with Randall Aiman-Smith and Reed Marcy for 20 years, starting as a legal assistant while in college. They inspired me to pursue a law degree as I witnessed the intellecutal honesty and passion they exerted on behalf of our clients. I am now a partner in the firm and we continue to fight for workers' rights and for those who have been misled by fraud or have suffered investment losses.. While not working, I spend time with my family traveling and our dogs, and I enjoy running. I also use running as a platform to raise money for childhood cancer to support The Ronan Thompson Foundation.
I am a certified specialist in workers compensation law by the State Bar of California. I have been representing injured workers to obtain disability benefits and medical care since 1994. My peers have awarded me with an AV (pre-eminent) rating for my advocacy and ethics, and I have been designated a Northern California Super Lawyer.
Education and Background. I was fortunate. Despite never finishing high school or college, I was able – albeit with a lot of hard work – to gain admission to, and to excel at, one of the finest law schools in the country: U.C. Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law. While I was at Boalt, I was privileged to be an editor for the California Law Review and a Member of the Moot Court Board, advising on brief writing and appellate advocacy for other students. After I left law school, in my early years of practice, I taught legal writing and appellate advocacy at University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Also, over the years, I have been presenter at continuing legal education events.. Legal Experience. I have been an attorney for 30 years. I have devoted my practice exclusively to representing employees, consumers, and investors in the state and federal trial courts and courts of appeal. I relish going to court for my clients and I have tried many jury cases in the state and federal courts.. Examples? In 2010, I was the lead attorney, along with the other attorneys in the firm, in Williams v. Union Pacific Railroadwhere, after four years of preparation, the firm obtained a jury verdict of $1,670,000 for an African-American female employee. In Rivero v. Surdyka, I was lead trial and appellate counsel in a civil rights case that lasted 15 years, including a full trial and three appeals to the Ninth Circuit, finally concluding in a judgment for plaintiffs of over $2,300,000. These cases illustrate the firm’s motto: commitment – results. You have to commit to a case, sometimes over a very long time, to get the result the client deserves.. We don’t always win in the trial court. When that happens, commitment means taking the case to the next level and appealing it. In the Rivero case, above, that’s what happened: the court dismissed the case – we had lost – but we appealed and achieved a victory for our clients which we kept through two more appeals. Since then, the firm has had many appellate victories that vindicate the rights of employees and consumers.. Over the years I have been counsel for plaintiffs in numerous individual cases and class actions. It may sound corny, or hard to believe, but after all this time, and after all the great experiences I have had, my favorite part of being a lawyer is when I get to give my client a check.
