I have been practicing in Phoenix since 1982, initially working exclusively for insurance companies - either defending their insureds in personal injury cases or defending the insurers themselves in coverage situations or against bad faith claims. After several years I took on a few plaintiffs and then, by word of mouth referrals from clients, my plaintiff's practice began to grow and eventually left little time for defense work. My practice is now split about equally.. My experience from both sides gives me a unique perspective, and one that I believe is very beneficial to clients. I have purposefully remained in a small firm so that your contact is either directly with me or another lawyer with no less than 7 years of experience - your case is not shuffled off to some new associate for "training" purposes.. We don't advertise, and we don't brag - we just work hard for our clients to get them everything they deserve.

I have been practicing environmental law in Arizona and throughout the Southwest with an emphasis on water quality, water rights, environmental compliance auditing, solid and hazardous waste, mining and mined land reclamation and remediation, toxic substances and Superfund matters for the past 30 years. I have a nationally-recognized water quality practice and I work closely with my clients on federal, state, and local levels to develop workable strategies to promote development and expansion of both industrial and mining operations. I participate activitely as a member of the Arizona Mining Association Water Quality Subcommittee (I currently serve as the vice-chair of that subcommittee).  I also serve as the co-chair of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry Water Quality Subcommittee (formerly the Arizona Association of Industries Water Quality Subcommittee), a position I have filled since 2001.

I have been practicing criminal defense law in Arizona for approximately 40 years. From 1985 until August, 2012, I was a certified criminal law specialist.  It was my choice not to re-apply for certification, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that after all these years, if I don't know what I'm doing, being "certified" isn't going to change that.. My practice is almost exclusively in state superior courts and some lower level courts (city, justice of the peace).  It also consists of considerable experience in appeals and post-conviction relief (called "Rule 32s" in Arizona).. After practicing in my home state of New York for several years, my husband and I returned to Arizona, where we'd both attended law school (in Tucson).  Initially, I clerked for the now deceased Justice Jack D.H. Hays of the Arizona Supreme Court.  That was followed by a stint as a staff attorney for that court, under the tutelage of the Hon. Sarah Grant, then the Chief Staff Attorney and now a retired Court of Appeals judge.  These experiences made me a better trial lawyer and a much better appellate lawyer.. When I went into private practice, I worked for John J. Flynn, one of the attorneys responsible for the Miranda v. Arizona decision. Unfortunately, I did not work for John for long when he had a massive heart attack and died.  I finished up some of the work he'd left, then went to work for another distinguished criminal defense attorney in Phoenix, Thomas A. Thinnes (deceased).  After approximately eight years with Tom, I went out on my own.  However, I learned a great deal from Tom, who was a good friend and superior mentor.. I have had many mentors among some of the senior attorneys here in Arizona (although I am one myself now).  Among the many were Craig Mehrens, Jordan Green, Tom Karas (deceased)  and Phil Goldstein (deceased).  All of them taught me a great deal about being a good and honest lawyer.. My job, as a criminal defense lawyer, is seeing to it that the state and all its agents "play" fairly, and that they honor the Constitutions of the United States and Arizona by seeing to it that justice is done in each individual case.  In doing that, I not only help my clients, but all citizens.  Once the state plays unfairly, it will not stop with just one person, but will extend to anyone brought into the criminal justice system.. Both my children are grown and on their own.  For entertainment, I have  been a season ticket holder with the WNBA team here in Phoenix (the Mercury) for 15 years.  I have also become an avid fan of women's NCAA basketball, and watch as much as I am able in between everything else I do.  It is great fun to watch the young women in the NCAA grow and mature for four years, then often go on to play for teams in the WNBA.  Title IX was not available to my generation, but it has made all the difference in the world to these young ladies.. If you or someone you love is in trouble with the law, please do not hesitate to call me for a free one hour consultation.  We will decide together if I am the right attorney for your needs.  If I am not the right attorney for you, I will refer you to others that might better supply counsel for your particular case.. I do not handle DUIs, for they are a sub-specialty which requires a keen knowledge of the laws and how frequently they change.  I also will not handle a homicide where the state is asking for the death penalty.  I am adamantly opposed to the death penaly, and will not assist the state in its endeavor to kill its citizens.  Beyond those two areas, I am ready, willing and able to assist you in your quest for justice within the system.. After prosecution, I had the privilege of working for a very prestigious valley firm in the field of personal injury law. Combining my civil and criminal experience, I have first-chaired three dozen jury trials, far more trials than most lawyers conduct in their entire career. I grew up in a small village in Africa where I lived with no electricity or running tap water. I never imagined that I would live in America as a U.S. Immigration lawyer. My family and I have been through what most would call "Immigration Hell" including deportation. We legally fought and we now live in America as U.S. citizens. Therefore, I can personally relate to immigrants and their struggles because I was also an immigrant. Click Here to read the the story of my life as an immigrant before I became an Immigration Lawyer.. Lelia Adams was once an immigrant who is now an Immigration Lawyer dedicated to helping other immigrants. Lelia was born and raised in a small village in Africa. She later relocated to the United States of America as an immigrant and after several years became a naturalized United States citizen. Lelia attended Southern Connecticut State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science. While in college Lelia was a Congressional Intern for Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro representing the 3rd Congressional District of Connecticut. After graduating from college, Lelia worked for many years with a top wireless and communication industry as a coordinator in Continuity Marketing and Operations where she worked and interacted with people from different international cultures.. Lelia later earned her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law in Tampa Bay Florida and graduated with accolades. While in Law school, Lelia was placed on Honor Roll and as a result of her skills in advocacy she was also a finalist for the Phelps Dunbar 1st Year Appellate Advocacy competition. She also gained valuable experience in the court room as a judicial intern for Honorable Amy M. Williams of the 6th Judicial Circuit, Civil Division, in Saint Petersburg, Florida.. After graduation from law school Lelia relocated to Missouri where she was admitted to practice law. While in Missouri, Lelia worked with a non-profit organization in areas such as consumer protection, family law and Juvenile Law. In this role, Lelia fought fearlessly for all her clients through adjudication, meetings with social services and foster parents. She eventually relocated to the Phoenix Arizona to focus on immigration law. While in Phoenix, Lelia worked with an Immigration Firm helping clients with different aspects of immigration law.. Although Lelia was born and raised in Africa, she has traveled the world learning about people in other cultures. Lelia studied Common Law and the Law of Restitution at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Lelia also participated in the American and Caribbean Law Institute program through Stetson University College of Law, researching and writing about both domestic and foreign laws on Trademark Infringement. While in the American and Caribbean Law Institute, Lelia participated with several Law schools from the United States and the Caribbean in a mock trial on Foreign Trademark Infringement.. Now in her practice as an Immigration Lawyer, Lelia continues to be dedicated to her clients and fearlessly represents them because as an immigrant who has been through the United States immigration system, she truly understands the struggles and concerns of other immigrants. I grew up in a military family and, like most, was stationed at various bases throughout the country and overseas before finally settling in Arizona.  I stayed close to home and attended the University of Arizona for my undergraduate studies, before venturing out to California for law school, where I graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2003. Shortly thereafter, I moved back to Arizona, and began my legal career and gained valuable courtroom experience as a juvenile public defender.. In 2010 I transitioned into private practice, and since then I've focused my practice almost exclusively on family law, divorce and child custody issues.  I like to think I bring a reasoned and compassionate approach to my cases, and understand the emotional stress often involved in family matters. With over a decade of combined experience as a litigator, I'm also well equipped to handle contentious disputes when necessary. When I'm not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, running and hiking.  I'm also an avid sports fan – especially when it comes to my favorite teams, the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, San Antonio Spurs, and the University of Arizona football and basketball teams (“Bear Down”). When time allows, I also try to give back to the community by volunteering my time with Wills for Heroes and the Family Law Assistance Program.

I grew up in a construction family in the Midwest.  Several generations of my family are involved in the construction industry and as a result I started working in construction, surveying, and engineering when I was in grade school.  This has given me a unique perspective on the practical issues in construction, design, and environmental matters.. As a civil engineer I designed hydroelectric dams, tunnels, water treatment plants, and navigation facilities, and conducted construction site supervision of the Chicago Tunnel and Reservoir Plan and Chicago Freight Tunnel.  For instance, I was one of the original conceptual designers of the civil engineering portions of the Montgomery Point Lock and Dam, which after it was completed, was named 2007's most impressive engineering achievement in the nation with the "Grand Conceptor Award".  The Tunnel and Reservoir Plan better known as the Deep Tunnel is one of the largest civil engineering projects ever undertaken and has received numerous awards.  The awards include being named as the most significant public works project in Illinois of the 20th century, and it was named by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency as one of the nation's top Clean Water Act success stories and is serving as a model urban water management tool worldwide.  The picture above is me in the deep tunnel - 330' below the ground.. I love being a lawyer, husband and a father.  I have the privilege of working at a fantastic law firm and working with great clients.  I am very interested and involved in legal issues related to technology including the emerging areas of renewable energy, environmental issues related to biotechnology, greenhouse gas and climate change, and the combination of environmentally friendly and sustainable construction.

Such representation cannot be received unless you retain an experienced sex crimes litigator. This means an attorney who has attended the most advanced sex crimes trainings offered in this country, and it means an attorney who has significant experience in the courtroom defending clients facing sex crimes allegations, charges and punishments.. I have routinely attended the most advanced national legal trainings pertaining to sex crimes defense, like the A.T.S.A.’s Annual Conference and N.A.C.D.L.s Annual Defending Sex Crimes Conference.. Additionally, for over a decade I have taught a great number of continuing legal education courses on sex crimes defense practice and procedure to hundreds of other lawyers throughout the state of Arizona. Numerous criminal defense attorneys from Arizona and other states have sought my advice on sex crimes litigation issues concerning their clients. I am the Immigrants' lawyer because I also immigrated some years ago. I went through the immigration process before going to Law School and becoming a lawyer. I was a law clerk for the Presiding Judge in the 54th District in Lansing Michigan. I also worked as an immigration paralegal before becoming licensed as a lawyer. I have been practicing immigration law and Criminal defense now for more than 10 years.  I have passion for this work and treat it as a personal calling.. I represent people in Criminal matters but especially so for immigrants because criminal offenses do have immigration consequences far above and beyond the punishment in the Criminal justice system. So I defend these immigrants early in time to preserve their reliefs at the Immigration Court level when Removal Proceedings become the time the immigrant has become a United States Citizen, I help them own homes and businesses to solidify their American dream.

I am passionate about helping clients achieve their goals.. I have over 20 years of experience in law and business. My practice focuses on two areas: (1) helping injured people seek justice, and (2) business/real estate transactions. I have personal experience in both areas -- my first plaintiffs' personal injury case was my own, and I've owned several businesses.  Having a broad range of experiences and skills helps me better understand client needs, as well as to find and obtain creative, common sense, pragmatic and successful solutions to client problems.. I see myself as a holistic lawyer. What I mean is that your legal situation is usually only one part of the puzzle, and there can be other things you have to consider. When looking for the best outcome, you can’t pretend the other pieces of the puzzle don’t exist.. In my "free time", I enjoy yoga, meditation, bicycling, tennis, scuba diving, travel and playing the piano.
