Matt joined the firm as an associate in 2015 and is a member of the firm's Business, Litigation, and Business & Restructuring practice groups. His legal work consists primarily of drafting pleadings and dispositive motions, including motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss; researching legal issues across the firm's 13 practice areas; and handling litigation-related discovery issues, with a particular focus on e-discovery.  Prior to joining Sussman Shank, Matt clerked for the Hon. Elizabeth L. I was born, raised, and married in the San Francisco Bay Area, but moved my family to Portland in 1985.  I formerly taught high school English and Social Studies in California and Oregon.  When not representing hurting people, I enjoy hanging out with and cooking for my friends and family, reading books (especially contemporary fiction), bicycling, hiking, watching baseball (I'm a San Francisco Giants fan), activities in my church and community, and eating at the fabulous restaurants in town.

He has handled the acquisition and sale of operations or real estate of over 200 long-term care facilities. He has been borrower's counsel with regard to accounts receivable, real estate, HUD, and Fannie Mae loans. He has represented purchasers in long term care acquisitions out of bankruptcies and receiverships and has represented management companies and operators in the negotiation of management agreements.. Aaron has also been involved in numerous health care regulatory, licensure and certification issues, including the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Law and the False Claims Act.. During his tenure at Evergreen, Aaron managed the company's general, professional and employment litigation and he counsels companies on risk management strategies and on insurance issues, including captive programs..
