Receiving her bachelor's degree, with honors, in American Intellectual History from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she went on to law school at a Jesuit school, Creighton University, in Nebraska. Rising to the top of her class early on, Tara captured the American Jurisprudence Award (highest grade on the final exam) in Professional Responsibility (an attorney ethics class), Insurance, Family Law and Advanced Constitutional Law. She was also a member of the International Moot Court Team. Tara practiced in Anchorage, Alaska (where she was born) before moving back home to Eagle Point, Oregon..
