Jason was born in Peoria, Illinois and was raised in the Chicago suburbs. After graduating high school, he attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. In college, he founded and was President of the Johnson & Wales University Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and also sat on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island ACLU and Rhode Island Coalition Against the Death Penalty. Upon graduation from JWU, he was honored as Civil Libertarian of the Year by the ACLU chapter he founded, and was awarded the university's Senior Service Award, given to the graduating senior who contributed the most to student life during their tenure at the university. In 2009 Jason was honored as an Alumni Leader by the university.. After college, Jason enrolled as part of the Charter Class of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Boyd School of Law. He once again founded a chapter of the ACLU, at the Boyd School of Law, and served as its President for three years. For three consecutive years Jason received a Community Service Scholarship, awarded by the Boyd School of Law. He graduated from UNLV with his Juris Doctorate in May 2002, and was also awarded the Dean's Award for Outstanding Service. Jason also studied abroad in 2001 at Oxford University, New College, in Oxford, England.. Jason has been admitted to practice law in the State of Texas, the State of Nevada, the District of Columbia, the United States District Court, District of Nevada, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He has also sat on the Board of Directors of the ACLU of Nevada, and is currently a member of the American Bar Association, American Association for Justice, National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and the Student Press Law Center. In August 2008 the Board of Governors of the State Bar appointed Jason to the Fee Dispute Arbitration Committee. Jason has also been an instructor in Education Law at the University of Texas School of Law and Austin Bar Association's People's Law School.
