Prior to joining the Law Offices of Thomas E. Kennedy, III in September of 2013, I worked as a litigation associate for a small, plaintiff’s firm in Clayton, Missouri where my practice centered on the litigation of labor and employment disputes, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, breach of employment contracts and non-compete agreements and state and federal wage and hour disputes.I have extensive experience representing individuals and employees in complex matters involving business and commercial litigation, multi-party litigation, and collective and class action litigation relating to unpaid wages and overtime under both the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state wage and hour laws. I have also represented individuals facing prosecution in Missouri administrative and licensing hearings before the Administrative Hearing Commission, the Missouri State Board of Nursing, the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts and the Missouri Division of Employment Security.Since becoming an associate with the Law Offices of Thomas E. Kennedy, III, my practice has expanded to include cases involving disability rights and discrimination, Medicaid and other health benefits, fair housing claims, special education, nonprofit incorporation, whistleblower claims, guardianships, adoptions and juvenile justice. I also remain dedicated to representing employees in labor and employment disputes such as discrimination, wrongful termination and wage and hour matters.
I chose my practice because I want to use my knowledge to ensure that all people are treated equally and with dignity. I specialized in civil rights law for eleven years as a staff attorney for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, where I worked on thousands of civil rights cases. I also regulary dealt with all aspects of employment discrimination law and the constitutional rights of criminal defendants. I started the Caviness Law Firm in 2018 because I believe that I, together with my clients, can make a difference in St. Louis and because I wanted to get off the sideline and into the fight for equal treatment and the preservation of our constitutional rights. I look forward to working on your behalf.. Free consultations. Sliding scale available for those unable to afford my hourly rate.. The choice of lawyer is an important one and should not be based solely on advertising.
