William S. Thomas is one of the firm’s many experienced trial lawyers. His practice is diverse, with an emphasis in complex litigation. He has tried cases in a number of difficult venues, from the City of St. Louis, Missouri, to Madison and St. Clair Counties, in Illinois, and Federal Court in East St. Louis and St. Louis. He was lead trial counsel in one of the longest civil jury trials in St. Louis County history, which lasted 100 trial days. In addition to his trial practice, Bill is actively involved in a number of professional organizations. He is a former president of the Lawyers Association of St. Louis, the local trial bar. He is active in the Defense Research Institute, (DRI), serving on its Products Liability Committee, and that committee’s Building Products and Power Tool Specialized Litigation Groups, where he has spoken at DRI conferences. He is active in the DRI’s Construction Committee, and Professional Liability Committee, where he serves on their Design Professional Subcommittees. He has authored a number of articles for the DRI’s monthly publication, For the Defense. Dudley, a founding Member of the Firm, received the 2008 Foundation Award from the Fellows of the St. Louis Bar Foundation for his outstanding contributions to the St. Louis community and legal profession. He is also the recipient of the Lou Czech Award from the Missouri Municipal Attorney’s Association for his competence, professionalism, and contributions to municipal law (2003). Further, he is a past President of the Missouri Bar (’92-’93) and the St. Louis County Bar Association (’86-’87). In addition, Dudley is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, the recipient of the Purcell Professionalism Award from the Missouri Bar (award to acknowledge outstanding professionalism by a Missouri lawyer, who consistently demonstrates an exceptional degree of competency, integrity and civility in both their professional and civic activities, 2001) and the Geyer Award from the University of Missouri-Columbia (bestowed for his services to higher education in Missouri) (2004).. He is also a multi-year recipient of the Missouri Bar Foundation’s W. Oliver Rasch Award, given annually to the author of the most outstanding substantive article published in the Journal of the Missouri Bar (1985, 1989, 2006). Having tried cases in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and in the Missouri Circuit Courts, Dudley is rated “AV” (the highest rating possible) by Martindale-HubbellSM, and has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America 2014® in the categories of Commercial Litigation, Construction Law, and Litigation – Construction.  Dudley has been on The Best Lawyers in America since 2001.. Dan has been working as an attorney at McCarthy, Leonard & Kaemmerer in Town and Country, Missouri since July of 2016.  He practices primarily in the areas of construction law, real estate, commercial litigation, and personal injury matters.. In 2016 and 2017 Dan was named to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars list, which recognizes excellency in the practice of law.  No more than 2.5% of attorneys in MO and KS are named to the Rising Stars List.. Dan started working as an attorney at the law firm of Troppito Miller Griffin, LLC, in Kansas City, MO in May of 2014. He practiced primarily in the areas of consumer fraud, construction law, real and personal property matters, and contractual disputes/drafting.. Dan graduated with honors from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2013. He also earned CALI awards (highest grade in the class) in both Legal Writing and Professional Responsibility and served as the Business Editor of the UMKC Law Review. He also had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Valencia, Spain at the Universidad Politécnica in 2008.. While in law school Dan spent numerous hours in courtrooms and judges’ chambers as he served as a judicial intern under the following three judges:  (1) the Honorable Sarah W. Hays of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, (2) the Honorable David M. Byrn for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri, and (3) the Honorable Kenneth R. Garrett III for the 16th Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri. While working under these judges, Dan had the opportunity to observe some of the finest attorneys in the legal profession argue trials, hearings, and mediations. At that time, Dan also worked as a law clerk for Troppito + Miller where he predominantly assisted with matters relating to: contractual disputes, real property, consumer/general fraud, collections, bankruptcy, and adversary proceedings of various sorts within bankruptcies.. Dan began his legal career as a volunteer at the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association (“SMBA”) in order to gain exposure to the legal profession.  While working at the SMBA, he met several prominent attorneys that recommended the Springfield, Missouri civil defense powerhouse, Turner, Reid, Duncan, Loomer, & Patton, P.C., where he subsequently found a job and worked as an investigator until he moved to Kansas City for law school. At Turner Reid, Dan provided support for the attorneys to facilitate the defense of negligence, products liability, medical malpractice, and insurance claims cases..
