My professional life became transformed when I learned about Collaborative Practice.  I realized that rather than being part of a system that often further damages family relationships, I could be part of a restorative system.  The Collaborative process helps couples and families transition to their new configuration and pays attention to family relationships by creating enduring and lasting agreements that work for both parties and their children.  My practice is focused primarily on Collaborative family law, mediation, and cooperative settlement, as well as estate planning and appellate work.  I provide a one hour consultation at no cost, often with both parties, to discuss their options and inform them about the value of using the Collaborative process.

Karen is a partner at Tarrant & Liska, PLLC. She graduated magna cum laude from Carleton College in 1970, and from the University of Chicago Law School in 1973. She practiced law for over four years with a medium-sized Chicago firm, Friedman & Koven, in their litigation department. She has practiced law in Minnesota since 1977, and was an associate and partner with the firm Brown, Stolpestad and Smith in Saint Paul until 1982. Since 1982, she operated her own firm or has been a partner with Tarrant & Liska, PLLC.. Karen is also a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Ramsey County Bar Association. She has volunteered with the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services since 1977. She was a member of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and received their Life Time Achievement Award in 2005.

Chris Wachtler has been litigating civil and criminal cases in Minnesota and Wisconsin since 1996. Chris served as a prosecutor in Pine and Washington counties at the outset of his career, trying misdemeanor and felony cases for five years before entering private practice with a firm in St. Paul in 2001.. In May, 2013, he opened the Wachtler Law Office at 831 Como Ave. in St. Paul, which is also the home of the St. Paul Police Federation..
