In 1965 my family founded a manufacturing company in Tukwila and continued to operate it throughout my school years. From that young age, I saw that owning and operating your own business is stressful and requires constant attention, but can also be extremely rewarding.. With family business part of my daily life, it was natural for me to seek a major in business administration. I graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business Administration focusing on Entrepreneurship and a minor in Political Science.. In addition, I have handled numerous claims and disputes involving defective design and construction, and am experienced with insurance coverage and bond claims that arise in construction disputes.  Over the years I have worked on a wide variety of public and private construction projects, including road, bridge and tunneling projects, light rail, sports stadiums, libraries, educational and civic facilities, hotels and casinos, and numerous commercial, condominium and mixed-use developments.

My mother gave me a lifelong love of mountains and skiing.  My father was a lawyer on Wall Street and I followed in his footsteps. In 1984, I moved to Seattle. Three National Parks within a day’s drive felt like paradise to me and still does.. I am lucky to be married to a great person and Ruth and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in 2017. We have two grown kids, a son and daughter.. I have a commitment to hunger relief. I focus my practice on the representation of property owners whether corporations, limited liability companies, individuals or homeowners associations.  I am chair of the Construction Practice Team, serve on the Williams Kastner board of directors and am chair of the Loss Prevention Committee.  My recent trial success includes representation of General Metals of Tacoma, Inc in a contract dispute with its general contractor, Bean Environmental, LLC, on an environmental dredging project to remediate the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Washington.  Following a five week jury trial in the United States District Court in the Western District of Washington, the jury awarded my client $6.37 million for damages sustained as a result of the general contractor’s failure to perform its contract obligations.  The decision in General Metals of Tacoma, Inc. v. Bean Environmental, LLC was upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in November, 2008.. I was named to Super Lawyers from 2006 – 2008 by Washington Law & Politics magazine, and in 2003 was named one of Seattle’s Top Lawyers in construction law by Seattle Magazine.

Andy’s practice spans many disciplines including environmental, real estate, land use, and construction law. He advises clients on regulatory compliance and litigation of cost recovery and contribution actions under the Washington Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
