After graduating law school, Mr. Futeral was the judicial clerk for the Honorable C. Tolbert Goolsby, Jr., Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Thereafter, he practiced law in Columbia, South Carolina for several years until returning to his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Futeral is a partner in the law firm of Futeral & Nelson, LLC and has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Charleston School of Law. He has written articles for the South Carolina Lawyer magazine and the American Bar Association Magazine. Further, he has published a legal annotation regarding the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act in South Carolina Jurisprudence. He has been an instructor for the South Carolina Mandatory Magistrate's School and, in 1997, taught the paralegal certification program in Charleston sponsored by the University of South Carolina. I've also taught Criminal Law and Evidence at one of the local colleges. Outside of work, my interests include hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and just about anything outdoors. I played tennis in college, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, competed in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon several times, and backpacked into some of the most rugged and remote terrain in the mountains of Idaho to bowhunt elk. I also enjoy coaching my son's basketball and lacrosse team. In the summer you will usually find me with my wife and son at the beach or out in the boat. I work to live, not live to work!
