Sam Krystosek is a native of the small central Minnesota town of Royalton (pop. 1,242). He learned the value of hard work growing up, working at the family farm and his father's construction subcontracting business. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Saint John’s University (Minn.) in 2007. While at SJU, Sam competed as a member of the track and field team, and lived abroad for a semester in Galway, Ireland studying at University of Galway.. Sam continued his education at Xavier University in Cincinnati and earned a master’s degree in athletic administration in 2009. Upon graduating from Xavier, Sam followed in the footsteps of many of his family members and served in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer for three years, primarily at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he worked as a company executive officer for the U.S. Army Airborne School and the 1-19 Infantry Battalion.. After leaving the military, Sam attended law school at the University of South Dakota. Upon graduation, Sam served as a law clerk for the judges of South Dakota’s Third Judicial Circuit, and has been in private practice since 2017.. After being honorably discharged, he went to college and then to law school in Iowa with the intent of making the Midwest his new home.  After graduating law school, he moved to South Dakota where he spent the next six years as a prosecutor in the largest city and county in South Dakota.  He then spent two years in private practice with small firm in Sioux Falls before creating his own company.

Nichole is also admitted to the United States Federal District Court, as well as the United States District Court of Appeals for the Eighth Judicial Circuit. She is also a panel criminal defense attorney for the federal court system, and has represented clients in a wide variety of criminal prosecutions, including illegal entry cases.. Nichole is an active member of the South Dakota Bar Association, where she has participated on various committees and also served as a South Dakota Bar Commissioner. She is a member of the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the South Dakota Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She is a former President of Women in Law for the Sioux Falls area and is involved in the Second Judicial Circuit Bar Association.. My name is Doug Thesenvitz.  Practicing law has been privilege and blessing since 1988.  I have been a prosecutor, defense lawyer; practiced family law and other litigation until about 4 or five years ago.  You have probably heard all the lawyer jokes about evil and greedy lawyers.  The problem with those jokes is that most of them are true to some degree or another.  I used to do a lot of divorces where my clients would just as soon litigate for the sake of litigation and making the other side pay.  Sometimes in family law cases (a lot of litigation is like this) it would be the other lawyer making things worse than necessary.  Sometimes litigation involves serving motions late on a Friday to ruin the other attorney’s weekend.  I had to quit living the life of a litigator; there was too much animosity, disharmony and discord.. There had to be a more peaceful and enjoyable way to practice law.  The privilege of helping families prepare wills and trusts, counseling them on vitally important issues in their most personal lives is the highest best honor and blessing I have found.  I am thankful every day that I get to help people with these decisions.  Practicing law to help protect children, loved ones, values and assets is not work but honor.  The honor of helping people with their estate plans is why I focus my practice in the field of estate planning.

Jan graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2001 with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Political Science and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota, School of Law. Jan began her legal career serving the public by working with indigent clients at the Minnehaha County Public Advocate’s Office.. In 2013, she ventured into private practice and found that helping people who are going through a painful divorce or a child custody case is also very rewarding. She is dedicated to helping people through these difficult times.. In 2014, Jan was appointed to be a Child Support Referee. In this capacity, she conducts hearings to determine whether child support should be modified and when appropriate, how much it should be modified.. She has also served on various boards and been involved with many community organizations. She served as defense counsel on the team that started the Second Circuit Drug Court. Currently she is the treasurer of the South Dakota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.. Jan’s practice concentrates on the areas of Criminal Defense in South Dakota State Court and in Federal Court. She defends people charged with every level of crime from petty theft to DUI to drug conspiracy cases, up to murder. She represents kids charged as juvenile delinquents or CHINS.
