I specialize in Divorce and Family Law matters, practicing primarily in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb and Washtenaw Counties. I am a Fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and have been recognized as being one of the "Best Lawyers in America" in Family Law by Woodward & White since 2006. I have served as chairperson of the Oakland County Family Law Section and have lectured and presented at various family law seminars for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education.. I knew I wanted to be a criminal lawyer since I was an undergrad. I've worked in criminal law firms since the 1980s and clerked under some of Michigan's best lawyers. For my entire career, I've done 90%+ criminal appeals. My philosophy is deep research. I subscribe to one of the broadest Westlaw plans available and do not confine my research to my own state. I am active on many national listservs dealing with Criminal Appellate issues so that I can stay on top of trends in other states and I routlinely blog about cases on review to the Michigan Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. This is tremendously important because of criminal retroactivity rules. If I have an issue in the system when the United States Supreme Court or Michigan Supreme Court hands down new law, my clients generally get the benefit of the new rule. If I don't, then the "ship has often sailed" when the ruling is announced. Being on the cutting edge has given many of my clients the benefit of favorable decisions that otherwise would not have applied to them.. While Michigan does not require continuing legal credits, I take far more than is required by the states that do require it. Law is constantly changing and staying on top of these changes is paramount to my philosophy.
I have successfully resolved hundreds of medical negligence and other personal injury cases on behalf of injured victims over the past 40 years.
