IRS personnel do not resolve cases favorably for taxpayers to be nice, or even because it is reasonable for them to do so. They only do so when they are forced to, out of their concern over the hazards of potential litigation against the taxpayer and his tax attorney.. With a unique combination of specialized tax law and litigation training and experience, I can provide the highest possible hazard of litigation against the IRS for my clients.
I was born and raised in Northeast Missouri in a small town of 450 people. Practicing law is my passion, but when I am not doing so, I enjoy playing/watching basketball, as well as most all sports.
I understand what it is like to struggle. I grew up poor and I have worked for everything that I have. My father was a steel worker and my grandfather was a sharecropper. I read trial practice books, psychology books, communication books; anything that will improve my trial skills.. Other than the law; I love cigars, baseball and photography. (In that order.)

I am orignially from Fairbanks, AK, a blue collar town in the middle of nowhere. Growing up in an atmosphere like Fairbanks contributed alot to the person that I am today. It instilled in me a strong work ethic, even in highschool if you weren't working 60 hrs a week during the summer time then your friends would joke that you had an easy job, that carries over to my practice today. Growing up in Fairbanks also instilled a sense of self reliance and a drive to overcome obtacles that has stayed with me through out my life.. Many people ask "How'd you end up all the way down here in Oklahoma?" My family is orginally from Oklahoma going all the back to the land rush days. My parents, grandparents, and Aunt and Uncle all moved to Alaska in the late 70's to pursue new oppurntunities in the last frontier. After highschool I spen several years playing Junior hockey and finally had to realize that a sports career was never going to pay the bills. Upon that realization I knew I had to look to a career and didn't want to work in the bitter cold of the oild fields of Northern Alaska. My sister was attending OU at the time and filled out an application for me and it came back that I was accepted, so off I went.. I graduated from OU in 4 years and then attended the University of Tulsa College of Law where I graduated in 2006. I had orginally planned to move to Washington State to be closer to home and passed the bar examination there before deciding that I would return to OKlahoma. I was licensed to practice law in OKlahoma in 2007 and immediately began working as an Assisstant Attorney General for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. I worked for the Nation for approximately 1 1/2 years before leavine to open up my own firm in 2008.. I have tried over a dozen jury trials, in both state and federal court, from misdemeanor assault and battery cases to a death penalty case. I am constantly trying to improve my trial skills by attending various seminars (e.g. Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College Death Penalty Course, Colorado Method of Voir Dire in Boulder colorado as well as the Pat Williams Criminal Defense Institute).. I am currently married and have 2 children.. My practice focuses entirely on criminal law and I am dedicated to protecting the rights of my clients above all else.

Brett Chapman is a highly experienced Oklahoma attorney who combines his comprehensive knowledge of Oklahoma law with a passion for justice that finds its roots in his unique family history.. Brett’s maternal great great great grandfather Chief White Eagle was the hereditary chief of the Ponca during the illegal Ponca Trail of Tears in 1877. His ancestor's against-all-odds fight for justice inspired him to become an attorney and seek justice for others.. Brett started his legal career by serving seven years in the District Attorney's Office, where he handled every kind of case possible, from misdemeanors to homicides. He also successfully changed Oklahoma's DUI case law as a prosecutor in 2015 by advocating for the change in a comprehensive legal briefing which persuaded Oklahoma's highest appellate court to change the law, State v. Alba, 2015 OK CR 2, 341 P.3d 91, and litigated a case which resulted in strengthening laws regarding sex offenders. See Weeks v. State, 2015 OK CR 16, 362 P.3d 650.. He has also defended many high profile complex litigations, including two recent appellate cases involving a novel legal issue on the cutting edge of the landmark 2020 SCOTUS ruling in McGirt v. Oklahoma involving state criminal jurisdiction over American Indians in Eastern Oklahoma. See City of Tulsa v. O'Brien, 2024 OK CR 31, __ P.3d __ and Stitt v. City of Tulsa, 2025 OK CR 5, __ P.3d __. In the Stitt case, the United States government filed an extremely rare amicus brief supporting his claim and the Biden administration cited this in the 2024 White House Tribal Nations Summit Report. The case has a chance to be taken up by SCOTUS in 2026.. Upon leaving the District Attorney's Office, he became a defense attorney for the Union Pacific Railroad Company and the BNSF Railway Company and defended both companies in complex wrongful death cases. His practice is now focused on criminal defense and advocating for Native American rights and tribal sovereignty in the spirit of his ancestors.. Brett is licensed to practice law in the following jurisdictions:. - Oklahoma Bar Association (No. 30334)- Supreme Court of the United States (No. 322005)- United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit- United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma- United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma- Muscogee (Creek) Nation (No. 1107)- Cherokee Nation (No. 850)- Choctaw Nation (No. 424)- Osage Nation
