Steven War is a seasoned attorney with nearly twenty years of experience specializing in complex patent, trademark and copyright litigation. He has represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants before federal district courts. Mr. War has litigation experience in many different technologies including medical devices, generic drugs, mechanical devices, Internet applications and satellite systems. He has prosecuted patents in various technologies, including medical devices, computer memory architecture, internet authentication systems, digital cameras, digital circuits, communications, and printers.. Prior to attending law school, Mr. War spent fourteen years as a systems engineer for IBM's Federal Sector Division, Computer Technology Associates (CTA), and Orbital Sciences Corporation (OSC) working with various government organizations, including NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Department of the Army, and the United States Coast Guard. During this time, his roles included identification of user requirements, systems design, systems test and evaluation, field support, acceptance testing, and participation in various user groups. He has applied one or more of these skills to satellite systems, helicopter design, the FAA's Voice Activation and Control System, and artificial intelligence systems.. Prior to his work as a systems engineer, Mr. War spent seven years in the United States Navy, part of that time as an electronics technician.Mr. War is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Kathleen Havener, a 1991 honors graduate of Harvard Law School, began her law school career when her three daughters were 8, 5, and 4 years old respectively, entering fourth grade, kindergarten, and pre-school.  Accordingly, Kathleen considers herself an expert in time management and attention to detail.. Ms. Havener’s career has included many years in big firms, 8 years in her own small firm, and currently a small litigation firm. She has managed cases ranging from antitrust to zoning and nearly everything in between. Kathleen has participated as liaison counsel in multidistrict litigation, and has worked on corporate employee raiding cases, securities fraud litigation, environmental regulation, multi-billion dollar corporate tax controversies, intellectual property litigation, insurance coverage disputes, government contracts bid protests, administrative proceedings before the United States Department of Transportation and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, complex commercial foreclosure actions and numerous appellate proceedings. Ms. Havener is experienced in mediation and arbitration, including international arbitration.  Early in her career, Ms. Havener represented the World Cup USA 1994 as Venue Legal Counsel in the Washington DC venue, coordinating safety and security arrangements with 20 separate law enforcement and security agencies throughout the DC Metropolitan Area.. I primarily represent clients involved in government investigations. I have defended some of the largest corporations in the country in criminal and civil investigations and prosecutions, as well as in parallel administrative, regulatory and civil litigation. My experience includes antitrust, securities, foreign corrupt practices, banking law, hedge funds, export controls and contractor corruption. I also have significant experience counseling individuals and corporations involved in congressional investigations.. I also represent individuals in government investigations.. In a relatively recent case, I successfully defended a telecommunications executive and business owner accused of fraud in a lengthy trial, during which my client was acquitted of all charges.  In addition to government investigations, I often represent individuals and companies in complex commercial litigation and disputes involving First Amendment issues such as defamation and invasion of privacy.. I maintain a strong interest in and commitment to representing non-profit organizations and providing legal services pro bono.

For nearly 35 years, I have been a general business litigator, with substantial experience in jury trials, bench trials and all forms of alternate dispute resolution.  Over the years, I have also developed considerable experience in handling complex estate disputes and legal malpractice cases and have extensive experience in dealing with disputes arising out of M&A activity and commercial contracts.  My cases have often involved extensive use of expert witnesses, particularly those involving business valuation, value of services and other complex economic issues.. Apart from litigation, I have also negotiated mergers and acquisitions, documented complex real estate financing ventures and drafted a great many contracts.  For approximately four years, while a partner at a large multinational law firm, I also acted as outside general counsel for a mid-sized government contractor (approximately $500 million dollars in annual sales), including the provision of advice on all aspects of its business operations..
