Hi, I’m Katrina Zafiro. I was born and raised in the Philippines until my family immigrated to California in the early 1990s. While living in the Bay Area, I worked as an educator for the Oak Grove School District, the Eastside High School Union School District and the University of California-Santa Cruz. I worked with Sony as a linguist helping to develop voice recognition software. I also worked as a volunteer and educator for several nonprofit organizations, including Catholic Charities and the Indo-Chinese Resettlement and Community Center where I worked with refugees and immigrants. These roles helped me realize that I wanted to help people and make a positive difference in their futures.. When I visited Seattle, I immediately fell in love with the city’s vibrancy, enthusiasm, and diverse multicultural population. I already knew that I wanted to be an attorney dedicated to family and immigration law, so I enrolled in the University of Washington School of Law.. While in law school, I worked as a legal intern in the Family Law Unit of Columbia Legal Services and the Self-Help Plus Program of the King County Bar Association. I also volunteered for the Northwest Justice Project and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.. Prior to starting my own firm, I worked for two prominent law firms in the Puget Sound Area in the areas of complex business litigation and class action lawsuits. Then—less than two years after earning my law degree from the University of Washington School of Law—I realized a dream by opening my own practice dedicated exclusively to immigration and family law.. Being a sole practitioner, I enjoy the rare opportunity to get to know my clients and meet their needs.. As an immigrant, I am deeply committed to helping immigrants navigate the complex U.S. legal system. My dedication to family law has guided me to serve as a volunteer teacher on divorce law at the King County Courthouse.

Firm: Micchel B Gillett

Hi, I'm Mike Gillett.. My Seattle-based law practice is devoted to fighting for your property rights and your economic rights. Under the law, you are entitled to the reasonable use of your property, and to responsibly conduct your business. I'm here when you need an advocate for your rights in a court of law or before a government agency - both state and federal.. After graduating from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, I was admitted to the Washington Bar in 1980. I went to work as an associate at the Law Offices of Roger M. Leed, a small environmental and land use litigation firm in Seattle. In 1985, I began a four-year stint as an aide to U.S. Representative Al Swift in Washington, D.C., assisting him on environmental and energy legislation. I returned to Seattle in 1989, opening The Gillett Law Offices. For the next 11 years, most of my work was lobbying on environmental legislation and regulations. I represented both large and small businesses.. In  2000, I returned to a litigation-oriented practice, working for the McElroy Law Firm in Seattle - again, a small environmental and land use litigation firm. In 2005, I opened The Gillett Law Firm. My practice is primarily litigation in such areas as boundary disputes, tree law, environmental contamination, administrative law, and general property law. I also handle some employer issues, including litigation concerning workplace safety and industrial insurance taxes.. I was born in California in 1955, and spent most of my first 25 years there. My father was a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy, and my mother worked in procurement for the Defense Department. My wife, Teresa, and I were married in 1988, and have two adult daughters.. I enjoy barbequing for big backyard parties. I have interests in U.S. history, Catholic liturgy, Dostoevsky, and social justice. And, increasingly, I like to travel to warm places in the winter.

Here’s the Story…. You’ve been hurt.  Or someone in your family’s been hurt.  You’re looking for someone to help.  It’s important to hire someone who shares your values and is going to maximize the value of your case.. The Myers & Company page of our website tells you about how we run our business and handle our cases.  This tells you a little bit more about me.. It All Started With Soccer. I’m very competitive.  And I like hard work.  When I was growing up I devoted a tremendous amount of effort and energy into soccer.  I loved the “beautiful game.”  When I was 12 years old I juggled the soccer ball over 1,000 times without letting it touch the ground.. My competitive streak was fueled by my soccer coach, Bruce.  Bruce was Scottish.  He was probably the most competitive person I ever met.  Bruce was almost, but not quite, good enough to play professional soccer.  He was probably 30 when we met.  It was not unusual for him to slide tackle 11 or 12 year olds on the concrete playfield where we practiced when it was too muddy to train on the regular pitch.. The hard work and great coaching paid off.  I was recruited and ended up playing soccer at Stanford.  Even though I’ve continued playing at a high level (including a 2007 Over-40 National Championship with Seattle’s TA-2), success at this point is measured by friendships that started on the soccer field.. I’m looking forward to making the transition into coaching and taking my girls to the Sounders.  (We’re huge fans and couldn’t be more excited to have top level professional soccer back in Seattle).. Love and Marriage. I waited a long time to get married and have a family.  It has given me a new perspective on how an injury can affect the whole family.. At first it was just me, my wife Shera and our cats.  But then Juniper and Olivia joined us.. It’s cliché, but having kids changes everything.  Or, at the very least, puts a new spin on life.  They’re the focal point of just about every decision we make and just about everything we do.  They’re a source of constant delight.  And they’ve made me incredibly efficient—not a second’s wasted during the day.. Selectivity: A Key to Success. Over the first 20 years of my career I achieved a lot of professional success.  It’s a source of pride.  But more importantly, it’s given me the opportunity to be selective about the cases I take.. Selectivity ties directly into the “life ethic.”  I like working hard on good cases and for good clients.  It just so happens that those are the cases that are usually the most profitable.  (It’s important to hire an attorney that runs a profitable firm.  Attorneys who make money are in a position to make the best decisions about whether cases should settle or go to trial.  No reason to be shy…before hiring an attorney, ask him or her how much money they made last year).. It’s important to me to have enough time to spend with my family and do the things that – outside of the law – are really important to me.. One of those things is to ride my bike to work.  I’m fortunate that my route takes me through the Arboretum and along Interlaken Park.  On the way to work I have time to start thinking about my day and how I’m going to make money for our clients.  On the way home I can decompress and start thinking about what I’m going to do with the twins.. Skiing consumes the winter and spring.  During the past couple of years I’ve been doing a lot more slackcountry skiing.  Even though it’s more work, the sense of accomplishment (and untracked snow) are ample rewards.. Conflict and Resolution. There are few things I like more than conflict and resolution.  That’s probably why I decided to become a lawyer.. Hard work, creativity and aggression get cases resolved.  And resolving cases is really what we’re here to do for clients.  It’s how we add value.. Most of the time we resolve cases by settling them.  But, sometimes, there are disagreements that can’t be resolved without going to trial.. Trial is scary and exhilarating.  Conflicts get resolved at trial.  And there’s no bigger stage to display all the hard work that’s gone into preparing the case and, most importantly, for you to tell the jury about what happened and how it has affected you.. For me, the first day of trial is like standing at the top of a steep, rocky, exposed slope.  Basically a no-fall zone.  The stakes are high…but so is the potential reward.. On skis you push off, make a decisive pole plant and initiate your first turn.  Once you’re in the moment there’s nothing better.  The same thing’s true with trial.  I’m taut with nerves waiting to address the potential jurors on the first day of trial.  But once I stand up and introduce myself there’s nothing better.. When you hire a trial lawyer you need to pick someone who really likes going to trial and isn’t going to flinch when the chips are down.. Learning Something New. Maybe it’s part of the conflict and resolution mindset, but I’m not satisfied with the status quo.  This means that our house is almost always under a state of remodel and I’m constantly trying to improve the way we handle cases.. It also means that I’m always interested in trying new things.  Fortunately my wife is a tremendous sport (and usually endorses these exploits).. Wrap Up. That’s a lot about me.  I hope it helps.  If we end up working together I’m going to make you tell me everything about you.  That way, we’ll be even.  More importantly, it will help me tell your story and maximize the value of your case.

Hello! Before we go any further, let me first say that I'm sorry you are in the situation where you are looking for legal help. I hope wherever your search takes you, that you find the help you are looking for.. In today's legal profession, most attorneys have a specialty or a small group of specialties -- the days of the "general practitioner" have largely disappeared, not unlike what we all experience when we go to the doctor. My practice is limited to representing workers who have been hurt or become sick due to their work. Representing workers has been my only job since the fall of 2002. Prior to that, I was an Assistant Attorney General representing the Department of Labor & Industries, and for a couple of years, I was in private practice representing hospitals and health care workers.. There are many terms people use to describe the types of cases I help people with: "workers' comp" or "workers' compensation;" "L and I;" "Labor & Industry" are a few examples. If you think you have been injured at work, or become sick due to conditions at work, feel free to reach out to me and we'll see if I can answer any of your questions, point you in the right direction, and/or explore whether it is time for you to consider hiring legal representation. Even if I am not able to represent you, I am happy to try to provide you with resources and referrals that will hopefully be useful to you and/or your loved ones.. If you are curious about my personal background, I was born and raised north of Seattle, and stayed in Washington State until my husband and I moved to Chicago in the mid-1990s so I could go to law school. We came back home after I graduated, and we've been so blessed to live in Seattle since our return in 1999. My husband, an Ellensburg native, and I have two kids who both headed south to the Bay Area for college after being stuck  too long in their bedrooms during COVID.  One is in San Francisco, the other in Santa Clara/San Jose.  Like most families, our kids' passions continue dictate much of how we spend our time. Our daughter is an equestrian in the hunter/jumper disciplines. A couple of years ago, she and I also adopted a rescue mare who we adore and continue to work with to bring her comfort, new skills & jobs, and security.  My daughter also loves to help produce live preformances just returned from a semester abroad in Copenhagen.  I love to quilt and do other handwork and treasure a nap or two on weekends.  My son is a freshman in college, the along with his dad/my husband the travel around the US and Canada racing RC Cars ridiculously fast.  He's also taken a shine to baseball in recent years and loves to hear our stories about the 1995 Mariner's playoff run.  My husband works in telecommunications and we live with our 2 poodle-mixes in Seattle in a home we purchased from my husband's great-great-aunt who bought the house with her husband new in the 1950s.. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you think I might be able to help.. Take care,KLM

Growing up in the greater Seattle area, it has been a simple tenant of mine to provide the highest quality service to my community. This ethos took shape during my undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, where I was inspired by Professor Beckett's Law, Societies, and Justice introductory course. I secured a position at a prominent downtown law firm, Thompson & Delay, while completing my double major in Law, Societies, and Justice and English at UW.. I earned my Juris Doctorate from Seattle University School of Law, with concentrations on corporate tax, federal income tax, gift and estate tax, negotiations, taxation of partnerships and LLCs, and trust and estate planning. I gained valuable real-world experience as a legal intern at Ahrens DeAngeli, where I immersed myself into the nuances of tax law, probate, and trust and estate planning, further igniting my passion for this field. I became a member of the Washington State Bar and soon practicing attorney at Berry, Appleman & Leiden and then later at CMS Law Firm where I learned from some of the best in the business. Most recently, I honed in on my expertise in estate planning and probate law at The Johnson Firm where I drafted and guided clients through sophisticated trusts and ancillaries.. Gaining extensive experience and expertise in estate planning throughout my career, I am excited to bring my passion and dedication to The Komen Firm. I offer tailored and accessible legal solutions that empower individuals and families to secure their futures and protect their legacies. I invite you to connect with me to discuss how I can assist you with your estate planning needs. Together, let’s navigate and allow me to simplify the legal complexities and ensure your assets are safeguarded and loved ones protected for generations to come.
