Here is a little bit about me:. While working as a police officer, I attended law school at the University of Baltimore. Upon graduating, I made the decision to take my 18 years of experience as a police officer and become an attorney that handles Criminal Defense cases, Personal Injury claims, and fighting to help Veterans get their rightful benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Henry Roland Barnes graduated from George Mason University School of Law with a concentration in Criminal Law in 2010 and has been operating his Law Office for nearly a decade. Since his admission to practice in the State of Maryland and in the Federal District Courts of Maryland, Mr. Barnes has actively and zealously handled hundreds of criminal and domestic relations matters across the entire State of Maryland ranging in complexity and severity. Whether the issue was a DUI or a high profile murder case, Mr. Barnes engages each client the same way: educating the client of their rights and options; developing a clear and effective strategy with that client; providing forceful and tireless courtroom advocacy; and, of course, delivering sound legal counseling specific to that client’s goals and interests.

I believe that everyone deserves high quality representation. I strive to minimize incarceration, fines, and lifelong irreparable reputation damage. Lastly, my motto is Professional Representation and Affordable Rates.
Pit bull... the nickname I first received as a prosecutor. I absolutely loved my 10 year tenure at the State's Attorney's Office in Baltimore County; throughout my time as a prosecutor, I learned how to fully prepare AND try cases at the District, Juvenile and Circuit Court levels. My trial experience as an Assistant State's Attorney was invaluable, as I tried everything from a minor driving while suspended to murder... Although I am no longer a prosecutor, I still have the reputation of fighting diligently for my clients. My goal for my clients is to be HONEST, unfortunately a word that infrequently describes attorneys. Retaining my services means that you will be fully prepared for that which is to be expected at trial. I am not a sugar coater. Never has a client and/or his/her family told me after trial that the outcome was unexpected. And let it be known, I don't ever stop fighting for my clients.. While the term "pit bull" has a negative connotation to some, do not be mistaken or assume that I am uncompassionate and nasty. I absolutely love working with my clients and turning a negative situation (let's face it, who wants to be charged with a crime or go to court for a DUI?) into a positive situation.
I received my B.A. from Middlebury College in 1982 and my master’s degree in 1985. I went on to attend the University of Maryland School of Law, where I received my J.D. in 1989. I began my career in litigation early on in law school, successfully trying civil rights cases in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.. My clerkships with the felony trial unit of the Baltimore City Office of the Public Defender and with the Law Offices of William H. Murphy Jr. gave me the experience I needed to start successfully trying serious criminal matters in both the district and circuit courts immediately after being admitted to the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars.. After serving as an assistant public defender in Baltimore for two years, I accepted a position with the Law Office of Roland Walker as a trial attorney handling both criminal and civil matters. In 1995, I was made partner.. Four years later, I began my own law firm, the Law Office of Gil S. Amaral. I have been successfully defending clients’ interests for the last 30 years and I continue to provide the high-quality representation and personal attention that my clients require. My current practice includes serious criminal defense at both the district and circuit courts across the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Additionally, I handle personal injury cases.. I am a proud member in good standing of the State Bars of Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as the Federal Bar for the District of Maryland. I am also a member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
