A member of the Lee and Hayes’ Chemical and Life Sciences Practice Group, where she assists clients in the development and management of intellectual property (IP) portfolios. Her technical expertise includes biology and computer science.  During her undergraduate studies, Dana was a lab and field research assistant in the Hoekstra Laboratory at Harvard University. There, she assisted with the completion of a long term behavioral genetics study on deer mice. The study was published in Nature and was reported on in the New York Times, Boston Globe, BBC, and SCIENCE magazine.. Prior to joining Lee & Hayes, Dana worked as a summer associate for the firm. Dana was a law clerk for the California Medical Association (CMA), a professional organization representing more than 40,000 member physicians in the state of California. There, she drafted briefs and articles for inclusion in the California Physician’s Legal Handbook, and conducted legal research on topics ranging from eMedicine, the constitutionality of California’s CURES database, HIPAA, copyright and work-for-hire. While at CMA, Dana led a research project on patent trolls. As a result of her work, Dana and representatives from the CMA were invited to testify before the California State Assembly’s Select Committee on High Technology in Palo Alto.  In addition, she worked as a legal assistant for a Los Angeles boutique healthcare law firm. Dana provided trial support, including the design and preparation of trial exhibits, demonstratives, and witness binders.

Jeff Patterson is a registered patent attorney specializing in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications in the computer, electrical, and mechanical arts.  Jeff received a B.S. with honors in Physics and Mathematics from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1995.  He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2001, where he studied pion-proton interactions.  He earned his law degree from the University of Washington in 2012. Prior to pursuing patent law, Jeff was employed as a radiation physicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, as well as other research facilities.  During this time, he worked to design, build, and test spacecraft, robotics, and avionics systems to withstand the harsh radiation environments inherent in deep space exploratory missions.
