I have more than 20 years of experience as a trial attorney and focus the majority of my practice on family law and civil litigation.. By way of background, I graduated magna cum laude from New York University in 1993 and was awarded my law degree by the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1997 where I was an editor of the Insurance Law Reivew.  Following law school, I clerked for the Honorable Francis X. Hennessey of the Connecticut Appellate Court and worked as a litigator before starting my own law firm.  In addition to my work as an attorney, I spend time giving presentations and lectures to other lawyers on trial skills, personal injury cases, and evidentiary issues.. I am a proud resident of Orange, Connecticut, where I live with my husband and our three children.. I am a D.C. native who grew up on Capitol Hill. I attended Columbia University and graduated with a degree of Political Science. I lettered in Crew and Football.. I attended Georgetown University School of Law. I now represent corporate and individual clients, as both plaintiffs and defendants. My practice is primarily in the areas of family law, bankruptcy, and landlord/tenant issues.  I have successfully represented  dozens of clients brought their cases to closure  to trial in both Virginia and Maryland federal and state courts.. While I enjoy arguing the issues before a judge, I am often able to resolve cases through mediation and negotiation.  This particulariliy makes sense in the areas of divorce and child custody and support.. Michelle M. Kostun advocates for clients and their families in divorce proceedings and child support and child custody cases, with emphasis on high conflict situations and complex and high value property and estates. Michelle is experienced in all aspects of the judicial process including informal negotiation, mediation, and litigation at hearings and trials. Michelle's appellate experience includes cases before both the Texas Third Court of Appeals and the Texas Supreme Court.. Before she started her own practice more than 10 years ago, Michelle represented Fortune 100 companies in corporate matters in New York and London, and then moved into high stakes business litigation at boutique firms in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Dallas, Texas. Wanting to connect with clients on a more personal level, and to make a difference for individuals rather than big companies, Michelle left corporate practice behind and opened her own firm.
