I was a Legal Assistant for 13 years before starting law school, working in the area of estate planning, probate, guardianship/conservatorship, and tax.. Prior to law school I worked as a corporate acountant for a major computer software firm.. I have two grown children and four grandchildren.

Hi, my name is J. Dan Lang and I specialize in Estate and Tax Planning. I am an Attorney and CPA and the owner of J. D. Lang & Associates. Trevor S. Whiting is a founding attorney, along with Matt Dana, of DANA WHITING LAW. Trevor successfully handles the estate and income tax issues related to dealing with out-of-state fiduciaries or trusts and estates owning property in multiple jurisdictions. Trevor has spent his legal career working with individual clients with regards to their estate and business planning needs. Prior to the founding of DANA WHITING LAW, Trevor spent three years in the estate planning group in the Phoenix office of a national law firm. Before that, he was a partner in the Dana Law Firm, which was established by Matt Dana in 1989. A native Arizonan, Trevor attended law school at Seton Hall University School of Law in New Jersey. Following graduation, he worked in the New York City office of Deloitte Tax LLP, where he assisted corporate and partnership clients with complex tax transactions and multistate income tax compliance issues. Trevor was born and raised in the White Mountains in Eastern Arizona. Growing up in the small, rural community of Eagar/Springerville, he learned to love spending time in the outdoors. Trevor and his wife, Anaclea, have five daughters, so Trevor has spent his time as a father trying to convince his girls to love football, wakeboarding, camping, the ASU Sun Devils, and Arizona Cardinals as much as he does. He must be a doing a pretty good job because his daughters try their best to make him proud and be daddy's girls. Or, maybe it it's because Anaclea is the best wife and pushes the girls to try to make their dad happy.

I provide personal planning and tax counsel to clients who may benefit from sophisticated planning techniques. I have extensive experience in a range of tax and estate planning issues, including planning for business owners and entrepreneurs, and for married, unmarried and same-sex couples. My focus is on my clients' overall individual and family needs and I assist clients in achieving their personal planning goals through effective wealth preservation, minimization of federal and state income, estate and gift taxes, facilitating tax effective transfers of family-owned businesses and real estate, transfers of inter-generational wealth, and structuring tax-effective charitable donations.I also represent fiduciaries in the administration of trusts and estates. I oversee preparation and filing of estate and gift tax returns, represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service and handle a wide range of probate matters including administration of estates and guardianships in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Jane I. Coogan joined the firm as an associate in January of 2014.  Attorney Coogan is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (B.A. 2001) and Villanova University School of Law (J.D. 2007, L.L.M. 2007).. While in law school, Ms. Coogan participated in the Federal Tax Clinic, representing low income taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and in the U.S. Tax Court.  She also served as a Research Assistant for Prof. Leslie Book in his writing of an American University Law Review article, “Freakonomics and the Tax Gap: An Applied Perspective.”. Prior to joining Coogan Smith, Attorney Coogan worked as an associate in a New Jersey law firm, specializing in the areas of tax and estate planning.. Attorney Coogan is licensed to practice in the states of Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, and in the United States Tax Court.  She is a member of the Attleboro Area, New York, Rhode Island, and New Jersey Bar Associations.. Ms. Coogan serves on the St. John's School Principal's Advisory Board, on the Board of Directors for HealthCare Options, Inc., and as a Corporator for both the Attleboro YMCA  and Bristol County Savings Bank.
