Tucson tax lawyer and Arizona Certified Public Accountant Eric Button has been advocating for clients for more than 25 years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Finance from the University of Arizona in 1989. That same year he began work at Allied Signal Aerospace in Tucson as a Cost Accountant where he successfully defended his division’s progress payment system against the government’s Defense Contract Audit Agency. During his tenure at Allied, he worked as a tax compliance specialist and led the formation of the annual $120 million operating budget.. Eric left Allied at the request of a colleague, who asked Eric to join him at Burr Brown, Inc. a major electronics firm. When the firm was bought out be Texas Instruments, Eric realized it was time for him to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. So, in August 1998 he entered the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona. During law school Eric continued to hone his business and tax skills and knowledge.. During his third year of law school Eric was hired as Tax Manager for a major mining company, beginning his string of significant victories against the IRS and Arizona Department of Revenue. One project he and his team worked on resulted in a refund so large it had to be approved by the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.. In 2005, Eric struck out on his own to focus on Tax Problem Resolution. He has helped countless individuals and small business with their tax issues. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Attorney at Law. He is also a member of the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers, National Society of Tax Professionals, National Society of Accountants, Tucson Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, and is admitted to practice before all Arizona courts and the United States Tax Court.

My tax law career started in 2005 as a trial attorney with the IRS in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ultimately, my IRS career took me to Phoenix, Arizona. In 2012 I left the IRS and entered private practice. During my post-IRS career, I rose to the practice group manager for tax litigation at an AmLaw 200 law firm. In 2019, I opened my own law firm with another former IRS attorney, David Jojola.. Over the years, my practice areas remainded consistent - tax litigation and controversy. The biggest change? Representing businesses, individuals, estates, and trusts rather than the IRS. I handle numerous tax disputes, from pre-audit and audit to administrative appeals through litigation.

I am certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a Tax Specialist. My practice focuses on representing taxpayers before the IRS and state agencies such as the Department of Revenue and Department of Economic Security. Before entering private practice, I was a Senior Trial Attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. Within the Los Angeles Office, I was both a Fraud Specialist and the Innocent Spouse Coordinator. As a former goverment trial attorney, I gained extensive experience in how the IRS selects, develops, and prosecutes tax cases. Taxpayers facing an audit or collection action generally need a skilled representative to respond to an Agency that is trained to protect the Government's interests. If the IRS contacts you about your tax return or a balance that you owe, they are not going away. Ignoring the IRS will almost always make things worse. A skilled tax professional such as myself can minimize the contact you have with the IRS possibly limiting the problems that you might otherwise face. If you are involved in a tax dispute, I can help you in a cost effective way to protect your rights.
